#810 – Ames

I always liked riding escalators as a kid but I had this fear in the back of my mind that I would trip while getting on and fall forward, slicing my knees on the blades of the next higher step in front of me. Fortunately this never happened. The real problem was that I would frequently not pay attention and almost fall at the top or bottom when the moving part suddenly gave way to boring stationary floor.

Final week! The Book of Biff #4 presale is almost over!

  2. cj five says:

ACME week? Wait only 4 letters…

  3. soilent says:

I’ve heard of a gal that got her rubber boots stuck in one. nasty stuff.

  4. Space Butler says:

I hope Biff doesn’t get caught up and shredded in the inner mechanisms.

  5. Shorty says:

    @Space Butler:
Knowing Biff, he’d probably just get extruded out like pasta.

  6. Hmm says:

They actually have plastic ones now. Just rode one today.

  7. gelugon2105 says:

This particular strip has Biff in the most amusing position EVER seen in a Biff strip.

  8. Bronze Dog says:

There are reasons you don’t accept gifts from kids in green tunics with pointy ears. This is one of them.

  9. Fishy says:

If you want some more escalator like fun, find yourself one of those horizontal escalators, and start walking very quickly and enjoy the scenery, and then when you reach solid ground, be in awe at the powers of physics you suddenly experience!

  10. Kree says:

I hope Biff doesn’t get his eyebrows caught in the escalator! That would hurt!

  11. Nilly says:

Oof, escalators. What I hate most is you’re coasting nicely along… and then you realize you need to keep walking when you’ve hit the top. It’s very jarring…

  12. Felix says:

    ;_;
I’m so happy… i am up to date. (happy dance)

  13. Ziggy Stardust says:

    I’m terrified of esc@ltors. I h@ve dre@ms @bout f@lling off of them into oblivion… Note: this is not @ sp@m post. My ‘@’ key is broken- my @pologies.

  14. Saffer says:

I was scared I’d get pulled under at the top/bottom of escalators, and never be seen again.

  15. sco3tt says:

I noticed that his shirt and socks match, then I thought that he’s probably wearing footie pajamas under pants and that made it even funnier.

  16. Tigergulp says:

I hate the things too. I fear I’m going to trip going down or or fall while getting off at the top.

Speaking of which, did anyone see the video of that blonde who was going up a down escaltor after a game. She was seriously chugging for a good 15 minutes against the crowd coming down! I LOL’d for hours! XD

  17. Hershey says:

I want to fall sometimes, actually, just to see what would happen. I usually end up copying that movie ‘ Buddy ‘ though, and doing a split.
The first time I did a split, I wasn’t expecting it, and it seriously hurt.
The hardest part is when your at the top and theres suddenly a floor though, because you have to wait for the rest of your body to get there.

  18. Suriander says:

Ames the defunct dept. stores? Mall week?

  19. weerd2normal says:

i have gotten my pant leg stuck in an escalator, and i was walking around holding my pants up for the next 3 hours in the mall, so all in all a good day.

    keep up the good work

  20. Nicoli20 says:

My brother had the sole of one of his shoes ripped off by an escalator, as well as a piece of his flesh.

  21. William Syler says:

I’ve never had an escalator problem.
    Does that make me strange?

  22. I had a dream last night.

I dreamed I was reading the archives of The Book of Biff, and I came across a Biff comic that was: multi-panel, page layout, with speech bubbles, and with people other than Biff clearly visible. Biff was talking to this other person, who was sitting at a desk. Can’t remember what they were talking about, but Biff had an “oops” expression in the last panel.

I then looked at the date of the comic and realized that nobody had noticed anything unusual about the comic for two and a half months.

I think I’ve read those April Fools comics too many times.

  23. Jakken says:

Is it just me.. or does his right leg seem to go off into nothingness?

  24. -2! says:

    @ Ziggy Stardust

There are lots of a’s on this page, why not copy one and past it (from your name perhaps?)

Also i normally walk up/down the escalators.

editors note: I know that you don’t apostrophe plurals but when it is a single letter, and adding an s forms a word, I think it adds to readability.

  25. Radical Edward says:

I hate escalators as a kid. I was worried that the step would suck me in. Pretty crazy?

  26. starseedjenny says:

I hate stepping onto escalators, always have. Other than that it’s fine but whatever…

    @ -2! — I usually capitalize and quote, like this: ‘A’s

It might be weird, idk, but it makes sense to me and sates my inner grammar Nazi

  27. Puds says:

Hey, I totally did that slicing thing like a month ago–I got a bunch of blood on my flip flops, and the scabs are a really ugly purple-y color now.

  28. YukiSnowflake says:

they now have FLAT ONES that can lock trolleys onto them!
That is VERY annoying when you are trying to run up/down them.
