#779 – Xavier

Knowing what is going to happen next can be really boring. I was sick once and stuck in bed. I laid there all night and finally fell asleep right as the news was ending. The blankets were too hot and woke me back up a few hours later right as the news was being repeated. I couldn’t find the remote and didn’t have the strength to get up. I suffered through all of the same stories that I had just watched. I tried to amuse myself by looking at things happening in the backgrounds of the shots. It didn’t really help.

Nice touch. LazerWulf, from yesterday, was expecting McCoy and you went with Xavier. It also ties back in to “Knowing what is going to happen next.”

  2. Sman says:

    lol, i loved this week’s theme 😀

  3. linuxxorcist says:

What always irritates me is when primetime ends, it begins again, they rebroadcast the last 3-5 hours of tv, just to annoy those who find caffeine drinks enjoyable. i wanna see X-men origins: Professor X, but i don’t know if they’ll make one, anyone know which X-men origins Marvel will make?

  4. Vidja says:

I can imagine Biff doing the whole X-men cast now.

  5. Space Butler says:

I like how you have Biff in the chair with the blanket over his legs to simulate professor X.

  6. TCC says:

lol, whats funny about this is the other day in the back of my mind I told myself you were probably going to do proffesor Exavior, but I dissmissed it due to the characters for the rest of the week and went with McCoy like everyone else… you’re pretty tough to read even when on a theme! XD

  7. Professor X’s origins arent as interesting (in my view) as Wolverine’s, so they probably won’t focus on him too much. Plus Patrick Stewart is a busy man.
To my limited knowledge, Professor X and Magneto were both in the same german concentration camp (Hence the beginning of X-Men 1 where child Magneto turns the steel gate into a bowtie), Xavier pitied the humans for their ignorance and Magneto (no I can’t remember his real name, its 3 in the morning) hated them for it. Mirror images, if you will.
ALthough it is in my knowledge that later in the animated series (possibly also the comics) Prof. X has had enough of Magneto’s sh*t and proceeds to mind-crush him back to being a good guy. Even the nice guys have their limits, I suppose.

    @Malachite: Erik Lenscherr

Was I the only one who thought of Xavier and didn’t dismiss it out of hand?

  9. LazerWulf says:

    Touché, Chris, Touché…

  10. Chris says:

@LazerWulf – I didn’t do it specifically to throw you off though. These were all written ahead of time 🙂

  11. Lorcan says:

    Good week!
Now, if I have all of Xavier’s powers, as I’ve gained each X-man’s powers during the course of this week, I should be able to determine what next week’s theme will be. Hmmm… let me get back to you on that…

  12. Jackson says:

He also gains the ability to see the past!

  13. Linzleh says:

Is this the first dusk viewing of Biff’s cloudy day/painting/window scene?

  14. Chris says:

    @Linzleh – Nope!

  15. Thomas says:

@linuxxorist – I believe the next movie will be X-Men Origons: Magneto, which may or may not include Xavier too, I don’t know yet. And I also understand they plan on spinning off Deadpool and probably Gambit.

    Great comic BTW 🙂

  16. Wizard says:

“Yeah, but I didn’t think he’d jump again!”

On the subject of telepathy, I always wondered whether the curse of telepathy inflicted on the Belcerebon people of Kakrafoon was really just garden variety understanding, the kind animals use to communicate, and Piccard demonstarates to telepathic aliens by reading Worf’s intentions and giving his OK with a simple nod. I wonder if Kakrafoon after the enloudenment ever figures this out and stops jabbering all the time again. I wonder if anyone will ever write a book about it. I wonder if anyone has.

@ Chris: So you weren’t trying to fool LazerWulf *per se*, but did you deliberately plan that curve ball? Or is this a rhetorical question, as that would be par for the course? (Well, not very rhetorical. I’m done for now. Something tells me I’ve said too much already. Sorry.)

  18. Radical Edward says:

Watching the news might be boring, but at least I can keep an eye on the clock.

I remember watching the news one day. I remember that the story they kept repeating was about how nine men fell out of a boat, but only 8 men were rescued. The 9th man was missing.

  19. Boo says:

Re: Origins- The last rumor I heard regarding X-Men origins is that a sequel to Wolverine was in the works which will take place in Japan following the Samurai X (or something) storyline. I have also heard buzz about a film focusing more on Deadpool (weapon 11, Wade). Wouldn’t hold my breath on that second one though, not sure he could carry a movie solo.

  20. Sir Sniper says:

I’m going to back up the Magneto Origins sequal, that’s what I heard. And, of course, Dadpool’s going to be in it.

  21. dartigen says:

I don’t mind which Origins they do, as long as it doesn’t get too screwed-up.

I think the main problem with doing anything based on X-Men is incorporating every single storyline. You have Uncanny X-Men, Ultimate X-Men, something else, something else, etc. and you’ve somehow got to work off of all of it. A lot of source material is good, but too much can be bad.

IMO, Ultimate X-Men is the best. I don’t know whether I like it for the art style or the plotline. I never could get into any of the other X-Men series’, although around here it’s hard to find any decent comics. My X-Men fix mainly comes from friendly people on the Internet who scan their comics, and eBay.

  22. Matt Lee says:

Professor X is the most awesome character in the X-men! Mostly because he was played my Patrick Stewart on the movie! He was perfect! Nobody will disagree!

  23. -2! says:

    @ Matt Lee

    I DISAGREE!!!!

On other topics, this Biff more confused me then made me laugh. I was not sure why it was playing the nightly news in the morning…

  24. linuxxorcist says:

telepathy would actually kind of suck if you couldn’t control it, and you wouldn’t be able to if it was like any other sense, http://www.cracked.com/article_17185_7-awesome-super-powers-ruined-by-science.html
Gives you a good idea of that, and 6 others that would kinda suck in reality.

    1. Dewan says:

rose ptales are good to eat as is. so are pansies. sometimes i throw them in a mixed greens salad and use raspberry vinaigrette. yummy and colorful.were these candied flowers?

  25. ZackDark says:

@linuxxorcist: wow, the immortality one was quite depressing…

  26. Rated R for Redonk says:

Xavier….lol. I like it whent he titles are actually something I understand.

  27. Geryon says:

@Malachite Dragon – I have never heard anything about Proff X being in a concentration camp. I believe he met Magneto, who was in one, later in life.

@dartigen – Ultimate X-Men, which I personally thing has been in decline in quality for a while, is a fully separate universe with no ties what so ever to the other lines. Marvel went the opposite rout of DC and now embraces having many different parallel universes. As well the first Origins movie already extremely messed up continuity if you are following the comics, particularly for Deadpool as his origin is quite different than that in the comic, and he was not weapon 11.

    /end comic nerd rant

  28. @Geryon: Keep in mind that I said ‘to my knowledge’- I adore Magneto but My knowledge of X-Men is mostly centered about Wolverine, so I don’t have a lot to go on.

@Eleanor: THANK YOU. I could see the ‘E’ in his first name but that brain-cell just refused to fire up x_x

  29. And just realized my computer added my comment too soon:
About the only thing from my little mini-rant that I was positive of was the Professor getting fed up with Erik and mind-crushing him back to being a good guy. I never saw the exact episode/comic where it happened, though, but I’m pretty sure it was after Magneto had ripped the adamantium from Wolverine’s body. Its always the quiet ones you have to watch out for D:

  30. Lich King says:

the Lich king demands that u do wolverine next!

  31. -2! says:

    @Lich King

I assume you are new to this strip. He does theme weeks, Monday to Friday. There will probably not be another X-man comic for quite a while.

  32. Crimson_regret says:

@Lich king: Just as -2! said, it won’t happen for awhile.

And, when asking for something, always be sure to talk in a first person limited tone and not demand, and have things with generally proper grammar and spelling.

Welcome to the world of Biff.

  33. Micah says:

So I guess that his eyebrows act as antennae.

  34. Vosur says:

I don’t know whether today’s power is a good or a bad thing, considering that sometimes you can’t control what you “receive”.

  35. Erik says:

    A few things:

Deadpool movie is confirmed, and they’re committing canonical genocide with it.
Origins: Magneto is also confirmed. Has been since Origins: Wolverine was announced online.
At the beginning of the Ultimate X-Men comic series, Xavier fakes Magneto’s death, blocks knowledge of his powers and creates a false memory for him. That’s probably where the “mind-crushing him into a good guy” rumor came from.
McCoy and Xavier weren’t the only two choices left. Not by a long shot. Could’ve had Logan, Creed, Frost, Pryde, Wagner, Rasputten, Bishop, LeBeau……

  36. Lich King says:

i understand but i still want a logan comic

  37. McCoy, McCoy… You mean Beast? Sorry, I’m not very good with real names.
It looks like he’s only doing the original X-Men, though; I don’t think Beast came in ’til later.
I would LOVE To see him do Nightcrawler, though. I’ve got a soft spot for Nightcrawler <3

  38. Pyromie says:

Oh my god… I get that same power during Reruns of Family Guy!!!

  39. Geryon says:

@ Malachite Dragon – Actually Beast was, it is just that he was not hairy and blue then, he was a big acrobatic guy with big hands and feet.

@Erik – Well I think I heard the stuff about “mind-crushing him into a good guy” before the launch of Ultimate X-Men. I don’t know too too much about the regular universe X-Men, partially because there is just so much to know, but I know that Proff X did mind wipe Magneto after he ripped out Logan’s adamantium and Magneto has at least helped out at times, I think, so it could be from that as well. However it is all moot since rumor origins are crazy hard to identify.

  40. @Geryon: Yeah, I know. I’ve seen one of the animated series where he wasn’t all big and hairy yet; His powers kept evolving to the point where they turned him into a giant blue fuzzywuzzy <3 Just as brainy as he was before, though.

And yeah; him ripping out Logan’s Adamantium was pretty much the (big freaking) straw that broke the camel’s back, as far as I know. The only reason it didn’t kill Logan was because of his healing factor, and the damage was so traumatic it was ‘burned out’ for a while (if I recall correctly, at least.)

  41. MrGBH says:

I like how everybody (Including the writer of X3) seems to have forgot that Xavier and Juggernaut are step-brothers, so if Xavier did get an origin movie, it would have to feature him.

  42. Geryon says:

@ Malachite Dragon – ya, you are probably right about the details of the event of Logan’s Adamantium getting ripped out, frankly it was before I really read comic, and before I was at an age where I could really afford a lot of comic, but bless, and curse because of the time it takes, wiki for that kind of info ;p.

  43. Geryon says:

@ MrGBH – True but they already changed Jugs by making his power mutant based in the movie so my guess is they’ll just be thinking “What’s one more change?”.

  44. Pom Rania says:

Deadpool’s always been messed up in adaptations. I just HATED what they did to him in the Ultimate continuity. However, he was okay in the movie; the part before they did all that stuff to him, he was funny. There’s more of my thoughts on it in my lj, at http://boleniana.livejournal.com/6053.html
