Chapter: Comics
I sit in a chair for hours at a time for my day job without any problems. I think there is just something about having no choice but to sit there for hours on end in a plane that makes my legs go crazy. The rest of my body is fine but my legs get claustrophobia. And then of course when the plane lands and I get up I always manage to bang my head on the overhead luggage compartment. Always.
Also, tomorrow I will be on a plane headed out for Webcomics Weekend! I hope to see some of you there! I hope the plane has good legroom!

Flamingo-style!
The proximity of his shoes to his face has got to be unpleasant, though…
Lucky for me, I’m short. It’s very rare that I hit my head on anything.
i know how you feel chris…i actually fly pretty frequently and i still havent gotten used to the tight spaces. whenever i get off a flight it usually takes me at least 5 minutes of leg stretches to even walk around normally.
One time I played Civ IV for so long in my bedroom that my leg muscles spazzed for 3 days.
I got a new chair after that.
When I had surgery I was out for a while, when I regained enough leg muscle to walk, I got up, and hit my head on a cabinet. =P
It’s an uncomfortable feeling to not walk for extended periods of time.
Freaky, Chris. I went “gah”
Heh, fold up man.
im thinking its 6 million dollar biff week
I’m 5’0, I never have an issue of not enough leg room. Not having enough space under the seat in front of me to put my carry-on is usually the issue since I can’t reach the overhead storage containers.
I was wrong. That’s not a vowel at all.
Chris, do you get up occasionally when you are working? Like to walk to the kitchen or go talk to someone? Even just moving around a little might be enough to stop your legs getting weird, whereas on the plane you just can’t. Try going to the bathroom on the plane regardless of whether you need to or not.
PS: Can the guy named ‘Kurast’ go back to see the last comments for yesterday, pls?
That is creepy…Biff actually has less leg room & he certainly doesn’t look too happy about the proximity of his Converse! Theme: odd parts?
Is this self improvement week for Biff?
Zane Zaminsky would be interested to know about this “improvement”.
I’d totally meet you out there, Chris, but I have to work this weekend. Saturday night then Sunday morning. Oh boy.
What I wouldn’tve given for Biff’s super-knees there this past week…6 1/2 hours on a cramped tour bus to Rochester, NY, does not a happy man make.
OW OW OW OW OW OW OW!!!!!
There might be more space this way, but I assume gravity is gravity and all the blood will be rushing out of Biff’s feets and we enter Needle City.
Heh – Biff is a Transformer(tm)!
Actually, with knees like that, Biff could fold himself up like a wallet, and fit in a suitcase!
The frequent flights from Sweden to the US really do a number on my buns. I’m only 21 now, but hundreds of flights have scarred me for life.
@Letsfoolgravity – Why do you make that flight so often?
“when the plane lands and get up I always …” – should you have an ‘I’ here, or is the plane getting up?
😉
Yeah, I don’t think that’s an improvement at all. Looks painful, he’s got a face full of Adidas, and less reading room. Knees were made that way for a reason!!!
Cool image. Thanks for all your wonderful comics! Funny how only this one made me shudder…
@Thane of Eurmal – Yep!
My annual flights from Seattle to Nashville and back are bothersome.
I always try to aim for the front row or the emergency exit row. More leg room there.
Normally the second row on the left has more leg room than their right side friends due to the start of staggered seating
I moved to Sweden 10 years ago, but my Mom and sisters live in Texas while grandparents live in Iowa. That’s 2 trips a year. Yet, for some reason, spite scarring, I want to become a pilot.
I hate riding on planes. There’s never enough legroom, (I’m 6’4″) so I know how Biff feels in this case.
I can usually get enough leg room – I’m only 5’1″ and I usually sit with my knees up or my legs curled up under me (even though the latter usually results in having to shift around because my foot’s going numb).
My brother has trouble with planes though – he’s 6’2″ and is always flying interstate for business. His company usually manages to put him in Business class so he has some leg room. The one time he flew in Economy, we had to help him out to the car – his legs were cramping from being squished up for so long.
Do you think you could get rid of the bikini ads? I don’t block your website so you can get the money, but I have a little brother who also reads the comic.
Chris, did you mean to say “the plane lands and *I* get up” ?
Hmmm, sounds kind of like restless leg syndrome.
Why do you keep stealing things from my personal life?
Chris am I Biff and you just have not told me?
@ Silversaraph: Yeah, I second you on that. It was a wierd moment when I pulled the website at school one time. I couldn’t tell if they were staring because of the ad or the sight of a pale, bald guy with clothes-hanger eyebrows.
As for cramped spaces, I do all right on planes. But on bus rides to track meets it can get pretty crowded. My “technique” is to secure a seat on top of where the wheel is. That way anyone else that comes on the bus won’t be tempted to sit with me knowing I have a crappy seat! 😀 However, if all the other seats are filled up and I still get stuck with someone, my plan has just backfired. XP
hmmm… after thinking about it me being Biff would explain my eyebrows…
that image just blew my mind. i went “whoa,” at first glance. if only… if only that were possible…
That’s why trains are the way to go.
in my 25 years on this planet, i have never flown. first time commenting, love the site, love the comics, keep up the good work chris
I’m really more like 12% off, but I know a lot of guys that are 25 to 50% off, and they actually make the prosthetic knees so they lock like real ones, or you can switch them to 360 rotating action while seated. Makes it easier to change shoes an’ such, I guess, as well as get in an’ out of cars. Odd to see at first, and then envy inducing, ’cause I’m 6′ 4″ and would love to fold my legs upright like Biff on planes!
I haven’t flown that much, but I don’t have a problem with leg room. Maybe I haven’t been on a long enough flight for it to be a problem. However, I do have trouble with standing up under the overhead compartment–“luckily” I’m clumsy enough that I don’t hit my head too hard on anything, even if the overhead compartment touches my shoulders when I stand up.
this kinda reminds me of Bender from some episode of Futurama
Talking about leg cramps, i’ve been getting them a LOT recently.
Probably because of my biff-reading extravaganza!
…
I also have cramp right now, and butt pains from uncomfy seat syndrome.
I think i’ll go get my pillows to sit on, and make myself a cup of tea now…
On a totally unrealated note, today i finally cut my number of sugars in tea to 2 again!
i used to have TEN. yes, TEN. then again, i only used to have tea once a month.
I laughed so hard whenI saw his Knees. 😀
