I was told many lies as a child. “Don’t worry, this one tastes like cherry.” was one of the more common ones. At least the resulting horror was mild compared to “This may sting a little.”
I need one of those, I can’t swalow anything bigger than my allergy pills
Actually, my grandfather has a feeding tube now, and the best part is we don’t have to talk him into taking all his medicines now, or sneak them into his pudding! He’s much healthier (mentally, especially) now that he is taking his medications regularly. Does miss eating and drinking, sadly, but if he could still do that he wouldn’t have a tube.
Mdicine makes me wretch… XP
Um, Now and was do not go together. Funny tho! Drop the now, or change was to is. Or maybe I’m wrong.
The cherry stuff seldom tasted like the uber-sweet cherry-flavored popsicles every kid tried to equate them to. More like a sour cherry a day or two past it’s ripest point, but not quite old enough to make you sick.
Now Grape-flavored medicine was cruel. Sure, it tasted like grapes, but as a kid I ended up equating that same grape taste with medicine. I despised any and every form of grape-flavored sugary treat, simply because it tasted exactly like the medicine and made me feel like I was sick or something and eating it to feel better, or something like that.
Heh, I hate the taste of artificial cherry. It’s terrible because that seems to be the most popular flavor for… anything. It was rather frustrating.
andit has a secondary use as back up storage space make sure all items are wraped in waterpoof material that is tightly sealed
yup, looks like mechanical week for sure…. and i was so sure it was water week too..
Who are they kidding when they call it “cherry” flavored? I can only imagine the person who came up with it had no sense of taste and only a passing familiarity with cherries.
When I was younger, whenever I had an upset stomach, my Mom would always give me Pepto-Bismol, and this was back when Pepto only came in one flavor, Wintergreen. Now I get an upset stomach whenever I smell Wintergreen, just because of the negative association made when I was a kid.
Ironically, I do enjoy the taste of Cherry Pepto.
(P.S. I did discover that Wintergreen Pepto goes down a bit smoother if it’s been refrigerated.)
P.P.S. Judging by the names of the comics, I would venture to call this “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger Week” in honor of the Daft Punk song.
I still haven’t tagged a dirty car in Biff’s honor. I should try to get around to that soon. Does anyone know where to post pictures?
Have you ever tasted prescription cough syrup? Trust me, as gross as the over-the-counter stuff is, the flavor actually HELPS.
@Craig- no, I think it works as it is.
I had some banana flavored medicine when I was a kid and to this day I can’t stomach artificial banana flavor.
Wow…a surrealist moment for Biff. Can’t imagine what tmrw will bring?!
I coulda used that more than a few times. Good for eating spinach, too!
I don’t lie to my kids about the taste of medicine – “Take this, it’ll make you feel better. Better drink it quick, the flavor won’t suck as badly that way.”
This is why I refuse artificially manufactured medication.
Talk about your big lies.
I love the taste of medicine. I would drink a whole bottle of cough syrup if I didn’t think it would be bad for me, and I have been known to suck on Panadol like lollies. (Panadol is a mild pain killer, like for headaches – I don’t think they have it anywhere but Australia.)
Then again I have also been known to drink vinegar and eat whole chunks of that pickled ginger they give you with sushi, so I’m probably just a freak.
They could say ‘Just think of cherries.’ And for shots ‘This might hurt, but only for a bit and only for a little bit.’
@Craig – This is why I have an editor go through the comics as they are printed in the books.
I also cannot stand artificial banana flavor, because my dentist used to use a pre-novacaine anesthetic with that flavor.. ick..
The worst medicine I’ve ever had to take was this prescription stuff…I had strep throat and they told me to gargle two tablespoons before trying to eat to numb my throat a little.
I couldn’t. The smell alone nearly made me throw up
I hate grape flavored medicine. I refused to take it as a child, and I refuse to even consider giving it to mine. I still can’t stand the smell or to drink anything even remotely purple colored. Bleh. Still love to eat the real fruit though. Thank God for Bubblegum flavor! Wildberry isn’t too bad either!
When I went to the doctor, they’d give me a choice of medicine flavorings- bubble gum or grape. In my head, I went ‘Depends. Do they both taste like hate?’
But I never had trouble swallowing it. I just didn’t like it.
When I was young and had a fight with a brick wall (which my face sorely lost), chipping my front teeth in the process, the dentist had me take some sort of medicine (I can’t remember what, but I’m pretty sure it was an antibiotic to make sure my teeth didn’t get infected or something). I couldn’t swallow pills, and they were little capsules.
So I mixed them with banana pudding. Still could taste it, but it wasn’t so bad.
Oh and by that I meant broke the capsules open and mixed them in, not the capsules themselves.
They did that on purpose tho…remember Pediazole? That stuff was like swallowing 1,000 years of human suffering and woe.
If only as a kid I had the “drawer-stomach” that Biff does, here…that would’ve made things much easier!
All medicine tastes nasty, from whatever source.
When I was a kid, my Mum started getting onto that whole ‘natural remedies’ bandwagon. So my cough syrup tasted like lemon and orange juice mixed with honey, because that’s basically what it was. It used to pretend to have a cough just to have a spoonful of it, it was so nice.
How many doses is he taking?
Oh yeah, when I was a kid I had infections all the time so they kept on giving me stronger and stronger antibiotics until the only one i could handle was called…. Augmentin! *dun dun dunnn*. It was emotional scarring. The first time i took it it tasted so bad that I did actually throw up.
it’s having special properties for your body parts week guarranteed
I hated being a little kid since I got jabbed with needles all over for… I don’t even remember all the vaccines but I was jabbed in the shoulder, the leg, the buttocks….. I don’t want to have kids if I have to do that to my own…
O.O I SO want one…good bye, horible grape cough syrup!
This is why I don’t drink alcohol laced beverages. They all smell and taste like medicine to me.
I feared getting a cough due to the medicine used to “cure” it…. And it never seemed to work. Now I just work quickly and find something to drink to prevent coughs from coming out. Saves me from the taste and oddly enough, the coughs don’t seem to last as long. One wonders if either soda or green tea has a soothing effect on the throat.
About a year and a half ago, I started taking a new medication. I had never tasted it before. But when I tasted it for the first time, I nearly vomited, it was that bad. So now, I mix it right undiluted orange squash.
@fafnir – I don’t understand drinking srsly
I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Thursday and Friday’s comic names will begin with an I and an O considering you have the rest of the vowels covered. Monday was A, Tuesday was E, today’s is U.
i love that stuff ( in a non abusive way ) it taste like sour lolipops in liquid form, i shure like it more that swalowing pills or eating chalky medicine chews. But it would be wierd to see him take his medicine in public.
I loved the taste of banana flavoured medicine (which was amoxicillin) and calpol even though I now doubt it does anything at all.
Hope you catch my post this time. Where did you get your nickname from? Is it from Diablo 2, the Blizzard video game? I’m pretty sure they named a place “Kurast” there.
If not, I’m really interested in knowing where you got it from, if you don’t mind? I do some personal fiction stuff and I liked that name, so I researched it but didn’t find any true origins beyond the game.
That’s the greatest idea ever.
I too, was a victim of the “Don’t worry, it tastes like candy/grape” lie. THE LIES BURRRN
Alcohol in small amounts is good for your body, hence the 1 glass of wine or beer a day..
Drinking more calms you’re body, and numbs you’re nerves and sences..
Now this at the same time will proberly enhance you’re social skills and give you a diffrent look on the world..
Take for a instance, Denmark where i live, we are a closed people hardly talk to strangers in the every day life..
But when we drink we get alive, we simply wake up have fun, and some goes of doing studpid things, but in the end Alcohol is just another Human envetion to make life easier and numb the everyday pain.
Oh, no, see, as my father believes, “it’s not a lie if you tell it to a child.”
Oh geez, its because of all those artifical grape-flavored medication stuff that I hate anything that’s grape/ purple-flavored.
But when I was really young, I had some kind of medicine that tasted like root beer (seriously)! I didn’t know what it was for (I think allergies), but I always wanted some because of the taste. An early addiction to medication perhaps? o_0;
Alcohol is not a social-skill enhancer. All it does is take the inside you and put it on the outside. If you come alive and have fun when you drink, guess what? You’ve got it in you. You just need to be a little braver, then you can be yourself without depending on alcohol. As for me, I like the inside me to stay on the inside where she belongs. She’s not a very fun person at all.
I think the “this tastes like cherries” thing never worked for me partially because 1. I didn’t know what cherries tasted like, and 2. I didn’t like the taste of cherries after I tried one.
When I was little there was a new flavor of medicine called bubblegum.
I wanted it. I took it and almost gagged! It did not taste like bubblegum at all! I wanted to sue the company for false advertiesment. (I was above average back then)
…pfft, school injections…
“you’ll just feel a little scratch…”
I always got stuck with orange.
I now even hate the COLOUR of oranges.
Grape. nothing EVER TASTES like grape. except grapes. but only fresh ones. grape candy, grape soda, (Shudder)grape medicine. those little bottle cap candys used to be my favorite when i was a kid. i used the grape imitation candy of grape soda as flying air missles aimed at my brothers head.
