#708 – Sooth

It’s good to soften the blow and try to add something a little comforting to bad news. Food is usually my comfort retrieval mechanism of choice. How about you? Teddy bear? Music? Video games?

    Sleep for me.

  3. reynard61 says:

Building a model airplane, music (mainly Classical), reading, watching Animation/Anime, walking…

  4. SEA says:

    Probably sleep :/

  5. SharkJumper says:

Music, definitely. My manager has the White Stripes to thank for averting the bringing of pain.

  6. Kurast says:

Money or games would be nice. A cheap 10 dollar DS game would soften the blow of the hourly wage cut.

Or just 10 dollars to hire someone to kill you.

  7. Muninn says:

Sleep or sudoku. Really, anything that either knocks me out or stimulates my brain and hands at the same time.

  8. dartigen says:

Musics and sleep. Green tea as well. Sometimes also sweet things, and Cute Overload to make me feel better.

Failing that, loud angry music and Grand Theft Auto/Turok/L4D/[insert gory and violent videogame here].

  9. Funnyman141 says:

heh gory games, sweet things, loud music (while playing gory games) and taking things apart (But mom I the heater needed a tune-up!) LOL

  10. My computer seems to fill that void. Worried that I haven’t studied enough for an upcoming test? I sit at the computer all night instead and reduce the worry. Yeah…

  11. Ziggy Stardust says:

Sometimes I will get an ice cream cone, or curl up on my bed and listen to a Fray CD twice until I fall asleep. The Fray is actually remarkably good…

  12. TigerGulp says:

As I’m always in a comfort zone (wohoo for working from home!) I don’t really leave it until someone makes me angry. Then I need Alice in Chains, Santana, The Pretenders, 3 Doors Down and a dirty house. I will turn up my Ipod and clean until I stop being pissed.

  13. Amy says:

I usually watch a DVD (it’s my solution for everything). If I’m at home, my mom and I watch Sahara, which is our ultimate guilty pleasure movie. ‘Tis light, fun, funny, and fast-paced.

    hooker(s)

  15. Rasheed says:

wait, are we asking what we want, or what we give others?

  16. MaskedMan says:

Dogs. Lots and lots of dogs.
When I really down, I go down to the Rescue Farm where I volunteer, and clean kennels, and play with the dogs – Border Collies, actually.
Cleaning the kennels gives me a sense of actually doing something that *helps* someone (well, some dogs, anyway!), and hucking balls for a couple hours burns off anger and frustration beautifully. The dogs’ innocent enthusiasm and delight at seeing me can fix any crappy day.

When I need comforting I always have my dear Girlfriend, but when someone dies i normally play a realistic video game. Normally a war game, which is odd because I normally don’t like them.

When breaking the news to someone else i like to have their favorite thing with me. When I broke up with my ex I gave her some dark chocolate.

  18. Izual Shima says:

    Excuse me, O Mighty Funbringer.

Isn’t it “Soothe” instead of “Sooth?”

Just to be sure. English’s not my native language.

  19. Izual Shima says:

    Excuse me, Oh Mighty Funbringer.

Isn’t it “Soothe” instead of “Sooth?”

Just checking. English is not my native language.

  20. Lucas Chromeck says:

Videos games, and if they aren’t enough I sleep a hole day!
    XD

  21. Rainel says:

Video games, loud and particularly angry music. If it’s really upsetting then sleeping for a day or two.

  22. Eric says:

LOLcats and motorcycles. I’d love to work for a company that gives out motorcycles as a bonus.

Comforting… Smoking Zombies in video games always helps

Books got me through the hellish years of school. I miss going through 4+ novels a week.

  25. Michael says:

Books for me, too. Recently, I read the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. Strongly recommend it to anyone with two functioning eyes (not sure if there’s a brail version yet).

  26. Michael says:

Sorry, I should have said “at least one functioning eye”. Text doesn’t require depth perception…

If it is a weekday and i have had a frustrating day at work, well then the Book of Biff can really turn my mood around. If i don’t have a new Book of Biff to read then i will usually do something involving video games (not making them normally though), or once there is a Random button again in Book of Biff… 🙂

  30. Linzleh says:

Cup of tea & a snack, then out for a walk with the Beagle girls…come spring though the garden calls and calms 🙂

hippy dippy music. and cats. and movies. or harry potter. or all of it combined!

it is my dream one day to grow a field of cats and roll around in them. yes.

  32. nikie says:

or the movie Sweeney Todd and alcohol. then i get to sing along and not care about how bad i sound and watch violence, bloody violence…

  35. KnucklesZero says:

Ha! This one is quite witty. I like.

    Pacify the masses :p

  36. BlueLunar says:

A teddy bear, nice and simple. I just broke up with my boyfriend and my Mum turned up next day with a teddy. 🙂

  37. Monkeyman says:

I’ve got an interesting one, an antique box fan, I tell ya there’s nothing more relaxing than the sound of a really ancient electric fan.
You can fall asleep in the middle of the day listening to one of them.

  38. uhh? says:

  40. -2! says:

I know i am a few days late but… So yea my computer decided to kerplode, and so i lost access to my games AND the Book of Biff. Apparently i need a noncomputer stress relief!

  41. JustRyan says:

cooking, dvds and GTA4. reading helps too, but more so because i got so absorbed into what i’m reading that i’m almost dead to the world.

btw, i bet biff’s note with his bonus went along the lines of: “quit your crying and suck on this for a while.” that would have been phenomenal.

  42. PlutoBum says:

i love that biff has a pacifier in his mouth lol
i get over bad stuff with a good book

  43. Radical Edward says:

Music, writing, watching DVDs, reading comic books. I learned to adapt to to disappointment.
