#662 – Taste

I don’t really have a problem with regifting. There are some things that just make great gifts that the receiver will rarely ever use. Fortunately they keep making Chia Pets so when you pass on the one you got five years ago you can pretend that you just bought it. Be sure to cover up the price tag from the discount store that went out of business. That’s always a regift giveaway.

Also, I got a few emails recently asking what my twitter address is. You can follow me here: http://twitter.com/bookofbiff where you can learn amazing things like I am allergic to cats, I eat too many cookies and occasionally link to behind the scenes Biff stuff.

    It’s a perfectly good brick. :/

  2. Davey says:

It’s inescapable: Fruitcake in drawing always looks like a block of vomit.

  3. MaskedMan says:

Whoa… Biff actually took a bite of fruitcake? He’s more brave than I!

Definately looks like “undesirable contents” week.

  4. Kurast says:

I have never had the (dis)pleasure of even seeing a fruitcake.

  5. trilobite says:

Actually, fruitcake in real life pretty much looks like vomit. May cause it, also.

  6. £cake says:

    Unorthodox gifts week!

P.S.: for someone with such a big mouth, that’s a pretty small bite mark…

  7. not me says:

I dunno why people dump on fruitcake so much. Then again, I’ve had some a few times that was freshly made by an expert cook, and not a generic store-bought one. That might make a difference.

  8. I’ll only eat fresh-made fruitcake. The store-bought ones give fruitcake a bad name.
    …I’ve never eaten fresh-made fruitcake. I hear they’re excellent.

  9. Chris says:

You should try these things in China called Mooncakes, they are gifted for the mid-Autumn festival around September. I consider them to be the fruitcake of China and regifting them is virtually expected, and they are pretty awful in all but a few cases.

  10. Tofumage says:

I am also one of those rare people who loves fruitcake. The difference is that I also enjoy store-bought fruitcake. Cherries and nuts and citrus rinds = yumminess!

  11. Tia says:

I hate chia pets…I wish they’d just stop making them. *sighs*

  12. Nugget says:

    XD awesome comics!
    Happy Holidays!

friutcake (froot-cake) n. 1. an amalgamation of everything that you like, mushed into a monstrosity. 2. the most common, and most abused, christmas gift. 3. construction material.

hope this clears things up. 🙂

  14. Kevin Iga says:

Or you can recycle your fruitcake, according to this website.

Actually, I’ve had some pretty good fruitcake before, at my grandmothers no less. someone brought one that was laced with Crown Royal liquor. Woo Hoo!

  16. Thane of Eurmal says:

Guess I’m just lucky… My grandmother always made home-made fruitcake that was very good. Very intense too, so I always assumed that the fact that I couldn’t eat more than one slice a day was what people were going on about. Delic, but heavy.

But she’s the only one who ever gave them in my family. From teh noob’s comment – do you guys get like three or four rotating through any given tree on any given year??? Is it a local thing? I live in the Northwest, and hardly hear anything about them.

And I’ve always liked the Chinese moon cakes too. My uncle-in-law owns a couple shops in Taiwan, and they make cakes famous island-wide, especially the pineapple cakes. Better than delicious…

  17. MaskedMan says:

Properly-made fruitcake, crafted by a master baker, is indeed edible, even enjoyable; especially when heavily spiked (to the poiint of combustion) with alcohol.
But such creations are vanishingly rare in this day and age.

  18. Speakerblast says:

I did not know that Biff had a mountain range outside his house.

  19. teh n00b says:

mountains? i thought those were clouds, and he was on the 2nd or 3rd or 6496549386505th floor.

  20. IDK says:

The mountains are probably a painting.

  21. DTanza says:

    *GASP*

Am I the only one who noticed that Biff is wearing a RED shirt!?

*Faints like a little old lady*

  22. Evilmynde says:

Call me weird, but I actually like fruitcake… Granted, the one I had a bit of is a fresh one (i.e. not having been passed around for a couple of years).

Nuts, check. Preserved fruits, check. Alcohol infusion, double check.

  23. stonehydra says:

    he is using invisible tape!

  24. Foxhound2 says:

Fruitcake………. that’s has a bite in it……… nice Biff, real nice

  25. Eltharrion says:

Well, can’t really say anything about the fruitcake because around here in Finland we have allmost nothing like it.

But heey, at least he didn’t die. I’ve heard that thing is rather unpleasant, and by looks of it (yeah, I’ve seen fruitcake once on my cousin’s table) it looks more like trying to choke you when you bite it.

  26. wisp says:

i have an aunt that always give us a fruitcake for x-mas or as my dad and i call it a brake block for the truck 😛

  27. Calvin says:

    Is it fruitcake… or nutraloaf?
You think fruitcake’s bad, try nutraloaf.
Just don’t sue me if you do. (It’s that bad.)

  28. BrainpanSonata says:

This is why I always have pannetone over the holidays. It’s EDIBLE fruitcake.
