#589 – Soaky

A few years ago I got myself lunch at a McDonalds drive-thru. It came with a “large” soda which was about a foot tall and seven inches in diameter. The very bottom of the cup was slightly smaller so that it would kind of fit into the cup holder. The parking lot ended in a small hill that went down to the street. As I came to a stop at the bottom of the hill the soda flipped out of the holder and tumbled end over end down onto the floor in front of the passenger seat. I reached down quickly to pick it up and was shocked to find that not a single drop had spilled. I think I would have been out of luck if I had put the straw in.

I had that happen with a medium recently.

You know what gets to me? A large is scheaper than a medium. Seriously. What the heck?

  2. PsychoDuck says:

Nope. The only caption I thought up when viewing the image was incredibly similar to the real deal. Congratulations, Chris: You have infiltrated my mind. Make yourself at home.

    The Duck Has Spoken.

  3. Kbman says:

Yeah, Mcdonald’s cups are completely watertight if the lid is properly fastened.
Almost the same thing happened to me last year, but I had the straw in. Still, only two drops came out of it.

I’ve had food in a bowl do the very same thing. Just flipped so fast that they didn’t spill at all on the way down, landing right side up. Soup, mozzarella sticks, etc… All of it just magically landing from the table without a spill. I guess giving change and rubbing Buddha’s belly whenever I get Chinese food is paying off. lol

I was in an incredibly boring morning meeting the other day and the guy across from me had a bottle of OJ and his computer side by side and I noticed he had the cap off his OJ. I thought to myself, that’s mighty stupid, it’d be funny as hell if he spilled it all over his laptop. Next thing I know he stands up reaching for a power cable or some such and hits the OJ bottle, it rocks but doesn’t topple. Ten minutes later after his presentation is over he stands backup to rearrange something and when he sits down, he hits the bottle again and spills all over the laptop.

I hid my smile behind my notebook. Does that make me a mean person?

Well if it makes you feel any better Chris, I probably would of burst out laughing. =P

That is one cool cup. The rules of gravity may not always bend our way, but when it does: it’s quite awesome. 🙂

  8. Flashback says:

Yeah, McDonalds started maing their drinks “hermetically sealed” after that coffee in the lap incident.
Even worse, I spilled a fruit smoothie all over my passenger seat/floor, and cleaned it up best I could, but since it was in the middle of the summer, the next morning, my car interior got up to 40 degrees, and smelled like rancid fruit all summer.

  9. “Biff learns to drink his coffee AFTER the heavy rains are over.”

  10. MaskedMan says:

“Biff has a cup of coffee while waiting for the plumber.”

  11. Josh says:

I had something similar happen. I had been working outside all day in the summer and REALLY wanted something cold. I went to Sonic and bought a slush. When I pulled back into my driveway, the slush fell over but this time the lid fell off and 44 ounces of Lemon-Berry slush ended up in my carpet.

  12. sparky mac says:

your definatly right, if the straw was in it, the structural integrety of the lid is compromised just enough to make a kiddy pool in the passenger seat, neve put the straw in till your on safeish roads or your damned possitive that it aint gonna go anywhere

  13. Ex says:

odd, I dropped my McDonald’s soda cup once and it literally exploded. It didn’t even just splash in the direction of the lid, either, everything was covered in it.

    Luckily I drink water.

Looking out from it’s bowl, the goldfish finally masters the art of projecting it’s sense of reality beyond the confines of it’s little world. I admit, though, that this does not properly fit the weekly theme.

I actually like the plumbing one best.

  15. angusgangus says:

I dunno… I think if you’re having the kind of morning that has your kitchen completely submerged, then kicking back with a cup of coffee is the only sane recourse you have left.

  16. The Dustin says:

you would have lost a few drops if you’d had the straw in, but also remember centrifugal force.
My first thought was that Biff forgot to turn the gravity on first.

  17. no name says:

Haha I like Biff best when he’s underwater.

  18. random person says:

How exactly did Biffs kitchen get flooded?

  19. trevor says:

I swear his kitchen got flooded before.
Also, my sister once told me that one of her friends fell out of a tree while holding a soda and nothing was dropped.

  20. MadDavid says:

    Now this is just silly.

*Nothing’s* possible before you’ve had your morning coffee.

  21. Cpt.Ziggy says:

is biff drinking brazilian or colombian beans?

  22. trevor says:

You don’t want to know what beans biff uses.

  23. i.half4 says:

@ MadDavid: Which is precisely why the kitchen is still soaky.

Or is that what you meant?

  24. i.half4 says:

Another speculative observation: It would appear Biff has (once again) unintentionally discovered a way to separate the ‘scrubbing bubbles’ (TM) from the “chocolate pudding” in #577 – Rorschach.

  25. mr toast says:

i wondering how he managed to get the coffee in the cup in the first place…

  26. AdmiralChaos says:

I laughed when I saw this one, because it reminds me of a lava lamp…and now that I think of it, a biff lava lamp would be pretty freakin cool.

  27. J says:

Oh that Biff, Always realizing something.

  28. jykcor says:

“Biff realizes he left the hot water for his coffee on too long.”

    ew….. tap water coffee….

  29. Andemas says:

@jykcor: I drink coffee made with tap water every day and I live in South Louisiana. Yet I am in perfect health.

  30. Matanui3 says:

why is his kitchen regularly in need of draining?

  31. Marscaleb says:

This made me chuckle. I didn’t see it coming.
