Chapter: Comics
It’s bad enough when I buy something and let it sit in my house long enough to go bad. When someone else does that for me before I even purchase it… I feel deprived of my natural choice to let stuff go to waste that I have purchased. It’s just no fun when you spend your last dollar on a candy bar that has separated into its component chemical ingredients inside the wrapper.

i have yet for that to happen to me but i mostly buy chocolate bars
This is always the worst in the summer cause the heat causes chocolate to do funny things, all the oil seeps out and the chocolate gets white splotches all over it. It’s still perfectly edible but just not as delicious.
You know, good chocolate just melts (and left out in the air it oxidizes, basically becoming less-sweet Mexican chocolate). But then, good chocolate can’t be had from vending machines.
In the E building at my college the entire supply of twix bars have been smushed, melted, and re-solidified into a solid bar of chocolate. Still good just horrible to get out of the wrapper.
Hasn’t happened to me. Food doesn’t sit in the machine cery long in the dorms.
That must be one seriously unpopular item…
I dislike those melted chocolate bars >=(
Nah, those are the best kind! That way you can just open it up at one end and squeeze it into your mouth like toothpaste.
Well, no, not that you would do that with toothpaste, but you get the idea.
Ooh! I know! Like Go-Gurt!
The vending machine convenient to my workspace is fairly good about its selection. There is also a service person who comes by at least once a week to restock items that are low or empty and replace ones that aren’t. Now if only they could make it more reliable in the not-eating-money sense.
Its kinda weird though, when you DO get the most unpopular item, and it turns out to be as fresh as it did when it was still there last year. Now I KNOW why people dont go for it, its got more preserving power than embalming fluid!
Who eats Go-Gurt? Srsly!
@Danielle: Ohhh!! Ohhh!! I Do! I Do!! Pick Me!
haha, back when I was in high school; we had a vending machine in the cafeteria where afterschool before marching band we would go get a snack or two…it was really lame if the cookies would get stuck. You’d have to basically throw yourself at the machine to get them unstuck….and then they were just gross because they would be like the last ones in there
Ew.
Looks like Biff can’t get his candy bar up. 🙁
That is a REALLY naughty way to think about Biff.
At work, the vending machines for our area are right in the window…the bright, warm, sunny window. If we want something from a vending machine, we hand some change to our managers who go up to the second floor to get a non-melted version.
at my school the door on te machine would get stuck, so you couldn’t get food out, there’d always be 3 or 4 bags of chips just sitting there, waiting to be retrieved, ou r machine also sold full sized bags of popcorn, but they wouldn’t work in the cafeteria microwave so we’d have to sneak into the cooking classroom to pop it
This looks…almost too normal for Biff. It’s sometimes hard to figure out whether he’s our everyday man…or a walking deity…
He could probably use the Biff-Brows® to steal some, too…
Vending machines with stuff other than coffee are quite rare around here. Hospitals and other facilities where people come in for long whiles, but don’t work there, mostly. Guess there’s not much of a market.
The coffee vending machine that used to be at the entrance to our offices, was extremely picky with change, could only handle coinage (which is in very short supply ‘cos our buses only handle coinage, as well)…and it was taken away ‘cos the company claimed we were stealing the change…..from that tough solid locked box….
….It was taken away to the 3rd floor. We were in the 1st……
Not a very respectful way to treat us…I mean, my office and all other in the building, work for the friggin’ city gov’t. And this isn’t a small gov’t either. We’re talking Buenos Aires, arguably the most important, and second most populous city in the whole of South America.
I don’t drink coffee though, but the machine could dish out hot chocolate sweet enough to give the toughest people a swift kick into diabetes =P
@Danielle: the only people who eat gogurt are little kids who actually listen to their cheap commercials
Ya know I never have that problem. I always buy chips or crackers… If they melt you know something TERRIBLY CATASTROPHIC has happened.
hehe that happened to a banana peel in my trash can. though i think one time i ate a candy bar i spit back out because it was nothing but sugar glucose nuts and some preservatives. bleh.
oh yeah forgot to say….. Weclome Back Chris!!!!!!
Eww.
When my mom was going to college in the early ’80s, she liked to hang around with the Anthropology students at the “Arckey/Anthey” (Archaeology/Anthropology) Building. They had a vending machine there that had — once upon a time — been serviced by a prior contractor but had (apparently) since been abandoned. The candy was *at least* five years out of date; and on hot days there was sometimes a line of ants marching in and out, apparently servicing their Queen. (Who must have developed quite the sweet tooth…)
Adam: “nothing but sugar, glucose, nuts, and some preservatives”
Isn’t that what it is anyway?
@3davideo:
Yeah, but, like, seperated into sections. Imagine a solid block of preservatives in a wrapper… Eww.
Melty chocolate bars are good if they’re just the little “fun”-sized ones. I don’t think I’d much enjoy a whole melted Snickers or whatever, though.
And the tiny bars can’t even save the “divided into original components” bar category
I eat go-gurt. It’s a good meal-replacement when I’m feeling woozy in the morning. Yougurt is good for digestion, and freezing it makes it not gooey and gross.
I tend to buy a chocolate bar, and put it in my pocket if I don’t eat it at once for whatever reason.
Once, I put it in a pocket of my thick winter coat – it was early spring. And the weather forecast promised warmer weather for the following weeks, so I put the thick coat in the closet till next winter.
Which, of course, is when I found that candy bar. For a few moments I wondered whether I should dispose of it, or just send it down my digestive tract…
It really wasn’t all that bad, in the end.
@ SharkJumper: You’ve obviosly never tried chocolate from the refrigerated vending machines at the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Are you by any chance in the Navy? I once saw this TV show that interviewed someone whose full time job was keeping the vending machines on an aircraft carrier stocked.
Sorry. With me, it’s always about the tangents to the theme.
I thought it was a hot dog at first…
and it stood for….something…sexual……..
