#571 – Ripe

This is something that I truly believed would happen when I was a little kid and swallowed a watermelon seed. Of course, I didn’t come to this conclusion by myself, it was tortuously planted in my head by my older brother.

Okay, that’s pretty gruesome for a Biff comic.

    Unexpected bodily repercussions week?

    The Duck Has Spoken.

  2. taber_man says:

Hahaha! Oh man, Biff needs to be more careful.

I guess he’s made of rather fertile soil, isn’t he.

  3. Tvae says:

    Biffmelons?

  4. Torg says:

Well, he has applied fertilizer to himself in the past. This was to be expected.

  5. SEA says:

    That…pretty gruesome.

If you don’t realise biff seem to have any internal organs. XD

  6. Dranikos says:

Erg… Nice way to rehash an old childhood phobia. It’s both funny and moderately disturbing!

  7. Gadora says:

All we can find in our area is the tasteless, seedless variety.

  8. Chris says:

    hmm imagine Biff with melons!

  9. Erica says:

    Gruesome? nah…
Heheheh though it is a wonder how Biff always goes back to normal everytime something happens to him.
No matter what, he snaps right back like nothing happened to begin with.
and i remember that old lie, I dont think I ever believed it, I think I just plain didnt like watermelon.

  10. trevor says:

Biff doesn’t seem to bothered by it.

  11. Heh. Gadora raises an interesting point… but I actually prefer the taste of seedless watermelon.

  12. Jackson says:

Oh my gosh. Now we know how skunk melons are made.

    ::shudders::

  13. Pierce says:

I remember this episode of Rugrats back when I was a little kid and still watched TV… Chucky swallowed the watermelon seed, Angelica convinces them all that it is going to grow into a watermelon and then the show proceeds on with the rest of them shrinking themselves and going inside of Chucky to find the seed. Used hypnosis or something to put him out..and in the end he burps it up and wakes up and then finds out he didn’t really digest his friends, they hadn’t even gotten small yet.

  14. HayleyJ says:

@ Pierce…dang you beat me to it! When I glanced at this comic; that was the first thing that popped into my head was the rugrats episode!!

yet another good comic, Chris, bravo!

  15. MindoverMattR says:

The tooth fairy, the watermelon seed grows into a plant if you eat the seeds; this sounds like a week devoted to childhood myths and fairy tales (that still doesn’t explain the tooth fairy, I guess, since my mom said she was real)

  16. MaskedMan says:

Agree – Childhood myths. I wonder… Will we be seeing the Easter Bunny this week..?

Oh, and my folks (especially my grandmother) used to tell me that potatoes would grow behind my ears if I didn’t wash there. I tested the theory. – It didn’t work. 🙁

  17. Fred says:

Lol… I thought the same with tangerines XD

  18. starseedjenny says:

I TOLD you Biff was made out of clay.

Also, I was a precocious little brat, so when my mom told me that the watermelons would grow I was all like, ‘That’s impossible because watermelon seeds won’t stay in your digestive tract for a very long time, and also because the stomach acid and blah blah blah etc”

She got kind of mad at me

  19. random person says:

The melons would probably look like a watermelon with freakishly long eyebrows and mouth…

  20. cb says:

20 comments and not one mention of or guffaw over “planted in my head” in the text blurb? That’s what make a one-panel shine! Brilliant, Chris.

  21. Psymon says:

Come to think of it, wouldn’t the watermelon plant have trouble getting enough sunlight to grow all the way through your body to where the sunlight is?

  22. john says:

When I was a kid, whenever my dad and I saw a pregnant lady he always said “she swallowed a watermelon seed”

  23. I don’t think I ever worried about the watermelon seeds…I just eat them anyway.

    Oranges, however…..

  24. Gato says:

I agree with Pierce, this totally reminds me of the Rugrats episode.

  25. A_Lad_Insane says:

things like that are ALWAYS implanted by older brothers.. (pun totally intended)

  26. no name says:

    Childhood Myth Week?

  27. Pom Rania says:

Murifex: That is a VERY DISTURBING video with a catchy tune.

  28. no name says:

    @ Murifex – Whoa. Weird.

IT’S 12:45 BUT BIFF STILL ISN’T HERE BECAUSE I LIVE ON THE EAST COAST! AGGHHHHH!!!

  29. Torg says:

@no name: Just wait 13 minutes. Biff will come.

  30. no name says:

lol. u live on the east coast as well?

  31. no name says:

huh? 1:04 and no Biff? sorry if i seem kind of nagging, Chris, but it’s like an addiction.

  32. Robert says:

OMG! I had a nightmare like this once. I was naked, and instead of hair I had…. like grass growing out of my body. When I pulled one out, all their roots pulled, and I could feel all of them!

I awoke with a mumble scream (mmmmrrrrraaaarrrrfffff) and covered in sweat. I rubbed my arms for an hour afterward.

  33. trueblaze says:

lol, this reminds me of an incident when I was a kid. My mom was cleaning my ears, and my dad came in and said I had something in my ear. He then reached over and pretended to be fooling around with my ear and pretended to pull an onion out of it. For a long time after that I thought I had onions growing in my ears.

    Everyone Cheer, Melons are Here
Filled with Seeds that grow out your Rear!

  35. LV says:

I use to think that too, And I also hated/loved eating eggs.. I also was terrified that if the egg wasn’t fully cooked then a little chick would grow inside me…

    Weird childhood fears… 0.o

  36. Laje Kahr says:

This reminds me a little too much of “The Ruins”…

  37. mg10n says:

My brother also planted ideas in my head. The worst was that if I ate baking soda, since it reacts crazily with vinegar, it would react the same way in my stomach. I was very scared of baking soda for a while until my mom told me that he was lying….

  38. Alice Love says:

Their actually is a case where someone guy inhaled a fir tree seed and a mini fir tree grew in his lung 😀 Look it up on google.

  39. Wyrd says:

True story–A guy recently went in to have what he thought was a lung tumor removed. When the surgeons got in there they found a small tree(2-3 inches) growing and blocking air from getting into one of his lungs. I don’t remember what kind. This actually happened, not urban-legend happened, and made it on a lot of news programs around here because it was just that weird.

  40. Miles says:

When I was little I always machinegun spit out the watermelon seeds like I’d seen on so many cartoons at that time. No melons growing in me, thankyou very much! Also, I got to spit shoot seeds for fun.

  41. SurveySays says:

watermelons are actually really hard to grow where im from so props to biff for being able to get one go grow so abundantly!
