#418 – Stacatto

My local library was only a few blocks away from my house so I hung out there a lot as a kid. It was air conditioned and had drinking fountains. One of my favorite things to do was to walk down one of the aisles and pull a book out randomly. I found some cool stuff that way. It didn’t take me long to memorize the location of the anatomy books.

nice. i knew some people in high school who brought a waffle iron to class once.

  2. Taz says:

    Mm, jiffy pop.

I love books and love learning. It’s odd, because I almost never read.. and I’ve dropped out of highschool. How strange. o.o

    I should really fix that.

  3. Envious Luna says:

    I love libraries. Bookstores too.
Books are pretty much the best thing in the world.

Although, a lot of the time I get chocolate on them. Or tea.

  4. the Scarf says:

I love books. I read more than anyone I know.

    And yet I’m failing English….

    fancy that.

Biff needs to invest in a trenchcoat. I’ve managed to get away with some pretty large foodstuffs whilst entering a movie theater because of a megapocketed trenchcoat. I fill three or four strategically chosen pockets with food, and the rest with stuff that will make them realize there’s nothing but useless junk in it.

  6. PsychoDuck says:

I remember I always had to go to my library if I wanted to use the internet… My, what primitive times those were 😛

    The Duck Has Spoken.

  7. Elle says:

Ahhh, going to the library for the Internet… what days those were. My closest library is a bus trip away, but I used to go there all the time and just get out like 20 goosebumps books. Those things were AWESOME.

On the subject of food, the guy I sat with in maths last year brought porridge to school once to eat in class. Except it was just in a bowl so it went through his bag. He wasn’t too smart.

  8. RFPT says:

    anatomy books, eh?

  9. Seraphine says:

    Anatomy books were cool.
    So was erotic literature.
Police techniques as I got older.
Now I just look at the pictures.

  10. kenshin620 says:

    …I don’t get it…

  11. Chivalrybean says:

I’ve had to the the library for internet before. By this I mean I was out away from home and was in dire need to send an email. Ok, so I just wanted to let my girlfriend (now my wife) know I was ok. Every time, not most times, but every time, I was always waiting form some kid to get off of MySpace so I could get to my email and send the important message. I really started to hate MySpace more at that point.

Yes, I have a MySpace, but only to drive traffic to my site.

We had better than anatomy books, we had Adam: The Inside Story PC software. I figured out how to turn off the fig leaves and access the blocked bits about intercourse.

    For educational purposes only!

  12. dragonbrad says:

kenshin620, He is eating pop corn, wich he just popped on his portable range, pop corn + poppind + noise +library = biff kicked out, a simple equation.

I have only been in a real library twice in my life, so i dont know what it feels like to be in there and just read through some books

  13. Robot Panda says:

    The librarian at my schools lets me borrow books without actually checking them out, or even before they’re catalogued 😀 I always swagger down the hallways like “LOOKIT MEEE, I have six or seven books! I’m so cool! …I’m probably the only person who thinks like that.” ;____;

Libraries are my best friend, I can get books without having to pay >

  14. Micah says:

I remember one summer when the electricity went out and this was in the middle of a Texas summer, so it was very hot in my house. My mom and I went to the library and read in the nice a/c environment.

  15. Noodles says:

    Hah,
    Good one,
I must say I don’t really go to libraries.. because there’s only one near me.. and you have to pay to get in.. and then there’s a time limit.. so it’s not really worth it,
I usually just buy any books I want or need.. or would find interesting.

I’m reading Stephen Fry’s “The Book of General Ignorance” at the moment
and I must say, it’s pretty good for random bits and bobs of information.

But yeah, Nice comic.. as always 😀

  17. me says:

I remember looking through anatomy books, good times…

  18. Reynard says:

When I was 11 or 12, my mom was going to send me to a Summer camp; but it didn’t start until about two weeks after school let out. So while I waited, I went to the local library each day and read the whole World Book Encyclopedia from Z-to-A.

  19. Miranda says:

Huh, I found the best book I ever read the same random way. I was the only person who ever checked it out and I still go back and check it out occasionally.

  20. RubricksCube says:

By randomly pulling out books I found an adorable 1st grade testing book from oh so long ago. They had to draw triangles.

And some kids I know brought a Foreman Grill into class and made hot dogs without the teacher knowing. It was so silly.

  21. Bubble says:

I’d love to work at a bookstore. The atmosphere is so nice in there and I love being around new books. I just can’t wait to read them and make them old…

  22. nikie says:

haha, when i was young and perverted (ie – 7) i’d wander around aimlessly at the local barnes and noble until i’d “coincedentally” wander into the sex section and look at the funny little books in there. they have pocket sized version of some instruction manual for the “perfect erotic experience” somewhere out in the world…

  23. Garrett says:

POP POP pop pOP PA-POPPOP! POP!

    POPPPPPPP!!!!!!

  24. WindWarrior says:

I never read anatomy books, nor did I want to….for real. I nkew a few kids who snuck a sex book out of the library and went to a nearby playground to read, but becuase of their stupidity they did it right in front of a cop car, so they got busted.

    and also,
I read through books at amazing speeds, and I dont even try to, I once read through a hefty 25 chapter book in about five hours. Is there anyone else with these freakish powers?

  25. Ben La Belle says:

I used to enjoy reading quite a lot, but since college started most of my reading is out of a book I never want to see again, my calc book.

  26. Andrew Boyce says:

this is great… love the comic

  27. R.A. says:

I think this may be the first (if not that, the second) time I’ve posted. So, great comic! I hope it lasts for a good long time!

I love reading. When I was little, we didn’t have air conditioning in my house, and so every Saturday we’d spend hours and hours in the library, just sitting there and reading. The librarians who worked there back then still know my sister and I by name.

I never bothered looking for the anatomy books. Probably because I’m a girl and something of a goody-two-shoes. Though I remember there was this one book at my intermediate school (5th and 6th grade) that was an encyclopedia of fantasy creatures and all the boys I hung out with really liked the book because the mermaids and Amazons and sirens and things of that nature were all shirtless.

In a Jiffy Pop note, during an outing with my youth group, my youth leader and I once ever so intelligently tried to make Jiffy Pop over a campfire once. One of the other adults thought we were gonna set the cabin on fire. We didn’t, but we burned the popcorn bad enough we were banished outside to eat it.

  28. Blop says:

Windwarrior, “I read through books at amazing speeds, and I dont even try to, I once read through a hefty 25 chapter book in about five hours. Is there anyone else with these freakish powers?”

Thats nothing. I read 300+ pages every night, i have developed major reading powers. If i concentrate hard enough i can burn things. 😛

And i still dont need glasses.

  29. steve-o says:

    I read. And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.And read.

I have read almost every good book. every.
    Then I reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.And reread.

  30. Colin says:

do you by and chance read staccato’s comic too?

  31. Eric says:

Man, I have a thing of campfire popcorn sitting in my pantry, and you know, this is the first time I’ve had a taste for it since I got it in the summer.

  32. All you people posting about the old days of using library Internet, guess where I am right now…

At the library. To use the Internet. Thankfully it’s Wi-Fi, so I’m using my laptop instead of public computers.

  33. Marmaduke says:

Ha! I work at the library (as a page) and let me tell you, people put some wierd stuff in there. I once found an entire, untouched piece of cheesecake sitting on a shelf. I’ve also found a couple people hot-boxing in the bathroom.

  34. WonOfTew says:

Iiii am very fond of books, something that my boyfriend and I do not share. He randomly picked out a book in the library while on the way to his IT job once, though, and found a book called something along the lines of _The Life of Bill Nye_. Nooo, not the Science Guy (He was my hero!!), but my boyfriend said that it was incredibly interesting nonetheless. To my shock, he said that he went back to read it several times after that.

I can read pretty fast, but give it to me in Japanese, and I come to understand why my mom always takes so long to read when we`re surfing the web together. She`s native Japanese, came over to The States when she was 18. =O She understands English humor, though, which is more than I can say about Japanese.

Hehe, my eyes are absolutely dead from reading/playing the old school gameboy in the semi-darkness back when I was younger. (>.@ Why, back in my day, we had no back-light…)

Hehe, Chris, I really enjoy the stories that you put up with each comic. ^.^ Thank you!

    /end ramble

  35. trevor says:

Hmmm…one of biffs eyebrows seem longer then the other today?

  36. Kyle says:

Chris, have you ever read The city of Ember,if not read it if so you are a lot like Doon. Walks from your bed, and now this liking to hang out in a libery and you ability to choose random books interesting

  37. Voyager says:

@cyber95: My Dad used to keep cans of diet coke in his trenchcoat. For the longest time, none of us realized what was making his coat so heavy. We always had to rearrange our coats and stuff to keep the coat rack from falling over. Then the arm his coat was on broke off, and then we knew why it was so heavy.
