Chapter: Comics
I was always fascinated watching my mom wrapping presents. My favorite part was when she would cut the paper with one fluid sweep of the scissors. I didn’t know paper could be cut like that. I just had my little round ended scissors that I had to hack at things with. As I got older I started helping her with wrapping things and she helped me get it right. This is apparently a rare skill for a boy to have. When I got older and gave gifts to people I would frequently get comments like “Hey your girlfriend did a good job wrapping this.”

That’s when you bust out the duct tape. I have a friend who wrapped my other friend’s gift in plastic wrap and then duct tape and it took her at least ten minutes to get it open.
Surprisingly, those two are boyfriend and girlfriend right now.
lol yay another guy who knows how to do gift warping and here i was thinking i was the only one who knew how :-p
yeah, I can wrap too, but I’ve come to find that the paper makes a huge difference, some paper is way easier to use than other paper
I’m a girl, and I didn’t aquire that talent until middle school…
last year, I wrapped everyones presents with newspaper, with thick red ribbon, and a white paper crane on top. They were very pretty, if I do say so myself.
I like the return of the electric tennis ball. Maybe he won’t hook it up to the switch this time.
I once wrapped a present for my Mom in a used pizza box. It’s all I had. >.
Aw, Zsinj, that’s still so sweet π It goes to show you care, using something as out-there as a pizza box. Now your mom knows you really wanted to give her a surprise.
Anyways, I’m okay a gift-wrapping, I suppose. But only boxes. Anything else totally messes me up.
The Duck Has Spoken.
This proves that biff is not the only person in his world that thinks like him. Maybe itβs a family thing. This would explain ware he got some of his stuff he canβt make it all.
I’m horrible at wrapping gifts and I’m a girl.
I used to suck horribly at wraping anything, that it usually looks like an aborted first grader’s art project. see, when i couldnt wrap it correctly, i just bunched it all up, and taped the hell out of it, so it looked like a messy wad of newspaper. it got the job done.
Eh, usually I don’t bother wrapping presents. It takes too much time and creates too big of a mess both while wraping and unwraping. That’s why I usually just stick the gifts in shopping bags, or I’ll just get people gift cards instead.
Elec tric tennis ball, ya-hoorah, I also can rap presants nice ly to, also I thaught I was girly for that, harah
I’m gonna second duct tape. It’s easy, and takes forever to get into π
Another good wrapping paper is notebook paper. I discovered that one when when I relized had to get gifts for a friend’s birthday.
Last year I used an entire roll of wrapping paper to wrap a single tennis ball for my brother. The thing was about the size of a basketball by the time I was done and weighed next to nothing. His main present was a new tennis racket.
I wonder how different it would have been if I used duct tape?
π
Wrapping like a girl is a complement.
Rapping, eh, perhaps not.
Plastic wrap is a cool idea. Cut out pictures
from magazines, use pieces of ribbon,
photographs, chocolate wrappers etc.
to use as an underlayer. Way Artistic!!!
Well, I’m a girl and I don’t have that skill, so good on you.
I hate wrapping gifts. I am fairly good, but I usually try to con my husband into doing it for me.
The best gift wrapping I have seen was a birthday present from a friend of mine. She tore pages of magazines that had pictures of my favorite actor (at the time) on them; then used that to wrap a box which contained fangirl junk. I was only about 13, and I carefully extracted the box from the paper and saved that too lol.
Another time for Christmas, my uncle gave his girlfriend an empty box that was beautifully wrapped, and at the bottom was a note that said ,” I got you exactly what you said you wanted…Nothing!” Everyone thought she was gonna cry…Well once she stopped beating him with the box, he dropped down on one knee and proposed.
“Well once she stopped beating him with the box, he dropped down on one knee and proposed.”
Lol Evilness- was that in self-defense????
I’m actually mediocre at gift-wrapping, yet I enjoy it every year.
And for some reason, I like wrapping Christmas gifts more than Birthday gifts.
Congrats on the 400th, I wasn’t paying attention yesterday
When my husband was a teenager he got $5 from a friend for his birthday. But his friend made him work for it. The bill was inside a piece of copper pipe that was welded shut. The pipe was sandwiched between two pieces of tin that were rivetted together. The pieces of tin were inside a steel box which was also welded shut. The steel box was inside a coffee can which had been filled with cement. This was my husbands favorite gift next to the case of duct tape the same friend gave him the following year.
I used to work for one of those places where you can take your packages to be shipped by UPS or FedEx or the USPS, and so I learned all sorts of packaging techniques, including gift wrapping. I can do a nice and tidy giftwrap π
I suck at wrapping presents. I wrapped my girlfriend’s present, and it looks like a blind kid did it…
People know when I’ve wraped the gifts… The edges are all square and clean, the patterns line up, and the folds are all crisp. My wife, OTOH… Heh!
My wife would also LOVE it if I used plastic wrap to do up the presents. She’s a horrible present-peeker and hates my careful wrapping jobs, as she can’t get away with sneeking the wrapping open for a peek – she can never re-wrap it right. π
My mom seems to have something against wrapping presents. She always uses those gift bags instead, and then reuses them the next year! To me, it just doesn’t seem as heartfelt as a nice wrapped present.
I always get to avoid. It’s one of the nice things about being an art student. You more or less get the right to skip out on buying presents and just draw them a cartoon or something because you’re poor. If I have to “wrap” a piece for someone, it usually just involves rolling it and sticking it in a mailing tube.
Don’t worry Chris, I have excelent wrapping abilty too! Well, it seems to kick in after I finsih about 10 presents or so, heh-heh…
My older cousin peaked a gift (a cell phone) and his mom discovered the box was re-wrapped. On Christmas Day, he pranced around the room shaking the box, putting it against his ear and swearing out that he somehow knew it was a cell phone.
He opened it up.
It was replaced with a lump of coal.
This was the first time I learned that adults could be excellent practical jokers.
i like to do layers. first i do it super neet like the MaskedMan. then i do an ok job. then come layers of messy paper held together with duct tape super glue andsafty pins.
people i like get up to 12 layers
The greatest thing about being artistically inclined…is that you don’t do wrap. I’ve never had the patience to wrap anything – once I make it, I hand it over and tell them not to drop/tear/burn/and/or eat it. I am, however, planning to knit my boyfriend a hat and maybe a scarf….and knit a box for it, too. And I’ll have to tell him, of course, that no, he does not wear the box.
Etc, etc, etc.
My best friend gets all fancy with the wrapping. She does this thing where she folds the paper over and back a couple likes times then when she tapes it down it makes a cool pattern.
@Reg;
That’s awesome! Coal!
I need to get some coal for my own pranks now…
My wife has commented on my feminine wrapping skills as well. Typical for me, though, I don’t think I do so well. I just can’t pull the paper tight enough to give it that sharpness to the corners–yet one more reason I never would’ve made it in the military.
Wasnt that a USB Tennis Ball?
I didn’t get it for a while, I thought he was trying to hide something from somebody, but it turns out he did, just not the way I thought.
LeapFrog, it’s better for the environment. Think of all the wrapping paper that gets thrown away. Recycling bags is a great idea.
The story reminds me of my present for my girlfriend. It was wrapped by me. Then my sister saw it… and decided that she would re-wrap it. My girlfriend loved the wrapping, and I thanked my sister lol.
Tis truely a gift you’ve got. I’m… not so good despitte my best efforts.
Yay electric tennis ball
Chris… didnt you say that comment before?
@jykcor – Yeah, that’s why I linked to it. π
Return of the electric tennis ball! π
So THAT’S where Biff got his electric tennis ball. :0
Within a year I went from being the worst wrapper to the best for no apparent reason. For about 5 years after that I shocked people with my wrapping skills. After the 5th year they got used to it. By the way Chris I also have that skill as a male.
Ooh, electric tennis ball!
