#370 – Dunk

There’s some food that we seem to keep buying but we never actually eat it. Usually it’s some sort of fruit or vegetable. We throw out a lot of things that were green and happy when we bought them but suddenly have turned grey and wilted.

    Aww, who doesn’t love cantaloupe?

  2. Schulzy says:

Not a fan of melons…not a fan of basketball either. I love the eyebrows though.

  3. Bubble says:

    This one is AWESOME!

  4. Danicus says:

our house never seems to go through all of the lunchmeat before it spoils. the fruit though, thats gone almost immediately. i love fruit.

I always used to buy fruit and vegetables (although mainly vegetables) that hardly got eaten before I had to throw them out when I was at university- I’d buy salad and say I was going to eat it at lunch over the next few days and would then end up buying microwave pizza for lunch instead.

Now I’m back home with my mother though the fruit and veg all gets eaten, but the lunchmeat sometimes goes off because we always have to have a packet of chicken or turkey open for my borther in law (He won’t eat pork or beef lunchmeat) and he doesn’t always eat it when we expect him to.

    but he uses his apples

  7. Seraphine says:

    Some people carve up melons.
    It sharpens their knife skills.
They make ‘boats’ on which to
    serve fruits and salad sometimes.

  8. Maniac says:

    Mmm… Melons…

  9. Paul says:

Slaaaaaaaaaam dunk! I think the season to buy melons has passed though. Now it’s all about pumpkins and apples.

  10. kenshin620 says:

now that I think about it…what in the world do I have in the back of the pantry?….

  11. tempo75 says:

    i can relate….
    melon ball is awesome!!!!

  12. Gobbledegook says:

My wife always buys/prepares enough food to feed 8 people, even though there’s only the two of us. Then she gets mad at me for not eating it all when she’s forced to throw out the stuff that’s gone bad.

If you’d like to see a funny albeit dangerously stupid use for melons (and some moron dumb enough to actually do it) go to youtube.com and search for “fire melon”. Fortunately the kid’s got enough luck to save a small village…

  13. Buzzardo says:

I hate to be one to quibble,
But Biff should play AFTER a nibble
    Cuz you can’t alley-oop
    a cantaloupe
and expect it not to dribble

  14. FlamethrowerWieldingMonkey says:

    That’s a honeydew, not a canteloupe.

  15. Bassferret says:

One activity that’s great for anyone on the east coast, is the “Punkin Chunkin.” http://www.atbeach.com/punkinchunkin/ It’s got two of the best things ever; ammo that goes splat on impact, and siege machines ranging from catapults and trebuchets, to giant air cannons that launch the pumpkins so fast, can’t see them without clouds. (which unfortuantly is what happened, but was more fun watching the semi-home made old fashion machines anyways).

Course, while it is something of a family event, half the fun was watching the crowd full of intoxicated people..

  16. Sleepingorange says:

FlamethroweWieldingMonkey: I wasn’t specifically reffering to the fruit in the comic; the word he used was ‘melon’, and out of melons, one of my favorites is canteloupe. It’s hard to find a good honeydew.

My mommy (Yes I did just type Mommy) always makes enough rice for days to come but we have it like… twice a week. It always goes bad or gets thrown out because we know no one is going to eat it.

Vegetables go bad in my house too. Unless I make something or my mom makes something, it’s not gonna be used.

  18. Entropic Voight says:

I like to think that Biff is just enjoying the melonin his hands, at the moment, and the basket ball net is entirely incidental.

  19. Kiwi says:

Entropic Voight: Same here. I didn’t even notice the basketball hoop until I read the title for today’s comic. I think Biff’s the kind of guy who could get a lot of time out of just holding and staring at a melon, for some reason. 😀

  20. Warcrime says:

If that’s true entropic, why would the net be right above where he sets his bags? he dunks, the melon splats inside the bag, making it easier to clean the mess.

  21. MaskedMan says:

What does a mellon ‘splatting!’ into a bag sound like..?

What is the sound of one mellon splatting? Two? A thousand mellons..? What is the sound of a hailstorm of mellons on a tin roof?

  22. Vickster says:

Maybe he uses them for replacement basketballs?

  23. PlutoBum says:

i always like throwing pumpkins after halloween…it’s so cool to see them smash

  24. etherscythe says:

My parents left a watermelon sitting (I kid you not) in a bucket full of water for over a week. Needless to say, it spoiled.

In the interest of hygiene (and not cuz it just looked cool, nooo of course not!) my sister and I threw it off the roof of the shed in our backyard when they went on vacation. We then buried the evidence by smashing it with a large stick, and running it over with a lawnmower.

    Good times.

  25. emthegreat says:

i absolutely LOVE watermelon. my mom bought one, and i was the only one home all summer, and i ate the entire thing in a WEEK.
    it was delishush.
(i’m aware i spelled it wrong)

  26. christine says:

    This is awesome.

  27. tolkafox says:

Biff’s paper bag basket had unexpected consequences.

  28. BrainpanSonata says:

Today I just disposed of a container of black olives soaked in worchester sauce from at least a month ago. I think it was more like two months old, actually. It smelled so rancid.
