#297 – Farm

I never had an ant farm as a kid. I did have sea monkeys though. I remember being disappointed that they weren’t nearly as cool as the drawings on the package. You were supposed to be able to teach them tricks and stuff. I think catching lightning bugs in a jar was always more interesting.

Macabelle Greatly Enjoys This play on words…

I had an ant farm! It was cool, though I kinda freaked out when I was poking the dirt with the stick and an ant crawled up. The booklet listed all of these cool experiments you could conduct, but I couldn’t because I didn’t have the materials. 🙁

    And I like Macabelle’s idea. X3

  5. AJ says:

I had an ant farm as a kid, but it was a failure since I never caught a queen and couldn’t be bothered to have one mailed to me.

  6. CojoinedCows says:

I don’t need an ant farm. I just buy them at the grocery store and put them in the oven. Yummy!

No ant farm or sea monkeys, but when I lived in New Orleans there was this place (can’t think of the name but probably had “science” or “factory” in the name) that was sort of an indoor amusement facility. One of the walls was this huge ant farm that kids could crawl inside and roam around.

  10. Seraphine says:

I had an ant farm once. One of the ants bit me.
It stung worse than a bee sting.
    Without a queen, it’s a dead colony.
Ant farms are sad. My ants died.

  11. Miranda says:

Great comic as always. Wannabeelf that site is awesome. I’m going to get the ninja monkey shirt. Too bad the life-size R2D2 trashcan is out of stock.

  12. Kayru says:

I’ll just stick to leaving the ants in the garden. Bleh.

  13. Sye216 says:

I’ve always wanted an ant farm. Some kinds of ants are nice. But others, I admit, can be nasty little jerks. A habit of mine as a kid was to poke sticks in ant hills. I always got ants in my shoes, and oh boy does that sting.

  14. Tinned Moron says:

How do you train sea monkeys? Tiny whips and biscuits?

I had both an ant farm and sea monkeys as a spawnling, both ended with failure, death (not just of sea monkeys and ants), destruction and jaded me for life. Yay.

  15. Adam M says:

I had sea monkeys till the kid next door thought it was one of those things you turn upside down and all the blobs of goo make patterns.
    They weren’t terribly exciting really.

I know how he feels. Sept my yard is my ant farm. Big ones too. they dragged a deer leg to a mound the other day. I ran them over with the lawnmower though. Poor ants.

  17. C4Pottery says:

So did Biff convert his mashed potato farm, or just buy a few more acres?

  18. C4Pottery says:

Oops, almost forgot about the story. I got my sister one of those ant farms made of gel the ants can eat and breathe. She never got the ants for it though. I hate it when I fail at gifting. If you fail at taking care of animals or plants, I got a couple of plants for christmas that are freaking immortal. If you don’t water them, they curl up, turn brown, and die. Then if you see your depressing dead plants and water them, they come back from the dead in a day or so. Though they do seem to want my brains, and they outnumber me two to one.

  19. the Scarf says:

    C4Pottery, I sympathize…I am HORRIBLE at buying gifts….

I have a plant in my room that i keep forgetting about, but I give it the dredges of water from the cups I bring up…its alive…

  20. Hornswaggler says:

We had seamonkeys. O_o Interesting, for a while, but then we just kinda…got bored. We fed ’em, and that was it. XD
I soo want an ant farm…

  21. Dzelda says:

Biff, you didnt get results BECAUSE you watered it.

  22. Soltueur says:

I’ve never had ant farms or sea monkeys, but I did try to start an earth-worm farm once, in a shoebox full of dirt. The goal was to use the fattest ones for fishing. A week later it was thrown out, all the worms resembling small, dry sticks at that point…
