#295 – Small

It’s a strange feeling visiting places again that you haven’t been to since you were a kid. It’s sort of comical how everything suddenly seems so much smaller. I visited my grade school recently and was amazed at the smallness of it. The drinking fountain was so low to the ground. I could walk up and touch the top bar of the swingset. The once vast playground was now merely like someone’s back yard.

Yup… and all those scary old teachers and huge bullies also seem to shrink with age as well

  2. Hyshinara says:

when i was that age, we were the big mutha f’rs in school XD

Heh… I like how his eyebrows stick out of the top of the tube.

I know the feeling all to well.

I went back to one of my old schools a couple of years ago and was pretty disappointed with what I used to think was a huge playground was actually no bigger than a tennis court. 🙁

I guess once you start progressing in the world and in life you realise that there is a bigger world past you the gates of the playground.

you wouldn’t believe how many times this has happened to me….

  6. Brett says:

Wow…Biff seems like a giant compared to that slide…

Prehaps those Giants have been infusing his body with DNA whilst his head was flying through the air?

I had a really scary old teacher back in my first years of school. She was like a ferocious dragon. I recently met her in the city and helped her across the street.

  8. Macabelle says:

There is a water park called “Splashtown” near where i lived. I actually got caught in one of the slide tubes going down, even though i weigh about 150 pounds. Granted i was on a tube, but nonetheless, that thing used to be gigantic!

I went back to my elementary school the other day, to reminisce. I went on the swing set, and noticed how much SMALLER it seems now. It’s still pretty big, but I used to think it was the biggest thing ever.

  10. RFPT says:

Biff grew up? these things you don’t think about.

every time I use a light switch, I think “I used to have to jump or push an object up to the wall to turn on the lights”.

  11. Kuroiten says:

Just walking through the elementary school reminds me of how I’ve grown. I can see the tops of most people’s heads now, and the ceilings seem much shorter…

  12. Elle says:

Dude, have you ever tried to use a toilet that was meant for second graders? I did that a couple years ago, and I think I’ve grown a lot since second grade, because my knees were around my chin.

  13. Seraphine says:

    It’s ok, Biff.
If you get old enough, you start to shrink again.

  14. Kevin Sleet says:

The first time I went into a game room and didn’t recognize a single game, I knew it was over.
At least I didn’t get stuck.

    Say good-bye Biff.

  15. ninjabob333 says:

Ah. I remember this. I found my favourite playground from when I was little had shrunken to about half its size since the last time I was there.

  16. Espy says:

Too true, the highest swing isn’t really high at all anymore, and the slide just ends before it even begun.
    Going to see my old teachers from elementary school was one of the saddest moments in my life, because the big building was so small, and the never-ending staircase was shorter than the one at my house nowadays. ;_;

  17. BlueWaterDragon says:

@ Elle: Yeah I’ve done that, weird isn’t it?
If Biff had a childhood I feel sorry for his mum or did the Eyebrows grow later?

  18. Radical Edward says:

I tried sitting on a swing and I realized that if it was to support my whole weight, all the little kids would have to get off the other swings or risk severe head injury.

When you’re nearly 20 and are overweight, everything is smaller. Designer clothes, seats and about everything else that could come to mind.

I remember when I went back to visit my old elementary school. Such bad times for me…when I visited it, it was winter and everything, even the gravel at the playground was frozen, just like the memories that took place there, nothing but ice.

  20. Ruarke says:

Going from being the smallest person in the final year of elemantary school, to the biggest person in high school, then visiting your old school is wierd, and sad. All the teachers that used to boss you and things that were so big are now so small.

  21. Hornswaggler says:

I’m barely going into sophomore year this August, and we often visit our old elementary…(It’s right across a parking lot from the HS. XD Even after a year, everything seems so…different. The big climbing dome thing use to be soo huge, it was amazing when people managed to get to the top. And the kindergarten playground…XD Man, it’s TINY. I remember playing more pretend games than actually using the equipment…

  22. Raven Gold says:

I had to fetch my 3 year old nephew from the top of one of those play castles they have at restruants because he was too scared. I realised, even if I am still quite nible. I’m not nearly as nible as a 3 year old.

  23. Marscaleb says:

I went to my old kindergarten…

The playground was torn down so they could put in some portables.
