#256 – Cube

I think my favorite kind of ice cubes is actually the crushed ice that I sometimes get in soft drinks. That said I also like the crystal clear 2″ cubes. They make a nice classy looking drink. When I was a kid I would turn on the kitchen faucet to a tiny stream and pretend it was a laser and cut through ice cubes with it.

Woo, that’s one heck of an icemaker. Also, First Post.

  2. Jesse says:

Is it sad that i still do that with my Ice?

  3. Cudzu says:

My favorite part of a drink is eating the ice after the liquid is gone.

  4. Ben says:

I used to do the same things with ice cubes…. heck, i still do sometimes 😉

  5. FinalDragoon says:

I’m also guilty of using a small stream of water to melt the ice.

  6. Carzand says:

I can see this activity being popular with a lot of “Biff” readers

  7. J says:

what kind of messed up ice cube is that

  8. bilbo says:

How did an ice cube that big fit into a fridge that small? Also thanks for giving me a great idea. =D

  9. CojoinedCows says:

We’d all like to know about your idea, bilbo. There’s nothing too stupid to imitate for a biff reader. 🙂
Man, I wish I had an ice machine at all. Or a fridge with a working freezer thingy. 🙁 Maybe, one day, I will call the person responsible for providing a new refrigerator. Until then, I’ll just have my coffee without ice.

  10. Das ist eine gross Eiswuerfel! Auch, Ich mag deine Netzkomisch Chris. Du bist Kuenstler sehr toll!

(Forgive me Im learning German just thought i would test it out 🙂

  11. Adam says:

Hey Blargen, not everyone here has a german –> english dictionary, translate for the good people please. Especially me.

Oh, and funny comic, I suppose, but it took me a while to realize that big blue thing was a bowl.

  12. trueblaze says:

Eh, he can just toss that one into the living room and let it melt. The floor in there is made of lava after all. XD

  13. Takkster says:

Now we know where he got the glacier for his office.

  14. Burninator says:

    Great comic

Also chirs: Now you comic is the first hit on google for ‘biff’

  15. Jokuki says:

Adam i think Blargen said this “That is one large ice cube! Also, I like your net-amusingly Chris. You are an artist very madly!” I did a rough translate with my book. Also Chris did you ever try using the hot faucet pipe thingy to melt stranded survivors of the hot lava??

  16. Marcus Dranz says:

Adam, that’s an ICE CUBE, not a BOWL.

Also, I wonder if, in the course of producing the mini-glacier, the fridge herniated something.

  17. dragonbrad says:

My step-dad made a really hard get out of ice-cube tray ice cubes, we would have to thaw the cube for five minutes just to get them out.

Where did Biff get raised, near a nuclear power plant, cause this guy my friends and/or crazy people, this is a strange man, a really strang…Biff-man.

    What is happening!?!?
    Why is Blargen-Vargen speaking German?

By the way Chris, nice comic, as always.

  19. ratboy says:

Nice comic, Chris. i started readin it from beginning last night before i accidently shut down my computer and when to bed. Kicked the power cord on accident. Wasn’t all bad cause all the little bugs attracted to the solitary light of my monitor were getting annoying. i made some posts after i took the time to scroll down and notice i could. my first one is on #122. Only complaint i have is no archive page where i can just pick one. One more thing. there is a different guy that goes by Ratboy. he capitalizes his name unlike i do. didn’t notice cause first post i saw from him was several pages after mine. If i would have noticed sooner i would have used a diff name.

  20. Anderson says:

    weak..

  21. Anderson says:

You can do better than that!

  22. red rule says:

how does he get an ice cube that big into that small fridge
    ——
well of course it’s one of thsoe interdimensional ones just like his thermos(for the lava) and water expands when its frozen…

  23. Bullet Fiend says:

    Hey Chris,
I’ve been reading BIFF since ’06 and me and I my all my friends are pretty big fans. I was kind of thinking, though, that the Biff comics were funnier the beginning ’til mid ’06. I still read the updates every weekday for a laugh, though.
I was wondering, why did Biff change his clothes? I kind of liked the classic Biff look with the grey shirt and black jeans (probably ’cause I got a pair just like ’em). Anyway, at least he kept the crazy green shoes.

I think the best thing about BIFF is when I read a panel and play out the scene in my head. This is why a couple of my favorite comics are “Eating the Cereal before it gets soggy” and “The novelty of an Umbrella Implant wear off.”
One of my all time favorites has to be “Biff Creates his own virtual reality system.”

Keep up the good work, Chris.

  24. Bullet Fiend says:

    Whoops, Typo

meant to say all my friends and I

  25. Bullet Fiend says:

And I also meant to say that I thought that they were funnier near the beginning of the series ’til mid ’06.

    k, I’m done…

    Really…

  26. Seraphine says:

I used to chew ice, until someone told me it was an indication of having an iron shortage in my body. Now I just suck on it.

  27. Marioman64 says:

i wonder why they call them ice cubes if they’re not shaped like cubes…

    PS(i forget what P.S. abbreviates):
lol great comics, i think this is my first comment on this site, hi hi! ^.^

  28. Reikon Ame says:

Well things like this seem nice, slowly it happens the normal sounds and bits of small ice coming down out of the machine. Then WHAM!!!!! your iced.

  29. Wolfie says:

I still laser the ice cubes too… It’s fun! But I always liked crushed ice better… probably because it’s so hard to get lately.

  30. P. Reaper says:

Ice skating just got a whole new meaning.

  31. Alex says:

Ratboy, You just get normal bugs? you lucky bastard..

    I get MOTHS… thats annoying..

  32. Kristen says:

That’s a big ass piece of ice.

  33. Ok well since everyone had a conniption over me speaking German I guess Ill do a translation 😐

That is a huge Ice cube! Also, I really like (enjoy) your webcomic, Chris. Your art is terrific!

    Yay now everybody is happy!

  34. Brett says:

Yet again, your comic can be considered Comedic Gold!

  35. Squall says:

It made me laugh when I saw the shape of the ice cube because my ice machine makes the same kind. Although, mine’s in the freezer, not on the door. Also, Biff obviously doesn’t need to adjust his ice machine, he just needs bigger cups…and bigger liquid to drink. And sometimes, bigger bendy straws that are double jointed so you can drink from a cup larger than yourself. Nobody thinks that maybe the ice cube WANTS to be that big, jerks.

  36. Q says:

His eyebrows make me extremely happy.

  37. good job chris. that makes two of us. just yesterday when i pushed for ice out of my fridge a huge-ass chunk came flying out and shattered all over the floor. i was picking up ice for the next 10-minutes.

  38. Yeah, every fridge with an ice machine I have seen makes those types of ice. I’ve never had one in my house though. I assume those who were confused about it hadn’t really ever used one with a machine in it.
Regarding them not being cubes… I have had some trays that would make them roughly cubes. The problem is that they are more difficult to get out of a tray if they are actual cubes. I’ve also seen those fun ones at Ikea which make ice sticks, ice stars, ice moons, etc.
Regarding ice crunching and iron deficiency… I think that is a wives tale that moms tell their kids to get them to stop doing something so annoying. I’ve heard that one, and I’ve heard it can ruin the enamel on your teeth. The latter makes more sense, but I don’t put much stock in that either.
I also think Biff may have found a solution for global warming.

  39. Woosh says:

I did (actually still do) the exact same thing with ice cubes… Its amazing how much this world has in common.

We could probably instigate world piece by air-dropping ice-cube trays, refridgerators, and kitchen sinks on foreign countries.

  40. dragonbrad says:

    orange juice weaken the enamel

  41. Felgard says:

if you need ice i got some you chan buy if you whant. Minimum amount 1T 50$

  42. Sergeant Major says:

I have a bad habit of leaving the refrigerator water/ice dispenser on ice. This draws many complaints from the rest of the family. So much that they have circled the water button in blue. I do it any ways

But now, I can’t annoy them anymore. We have a leak somewhere in the dispenser system. So my father sealed with with duct tape and left it at that.

  43. collerroaster says:

I pick my favorite restaurants based on the kind of ice they have, I think. Not on purpose, but drinks taste so much better when served over bunny poop ice, that kind that’s crushed into little tiny cylinders like @ The Loop or the Great American Cookie Company. Mmmmm

  44. Darkpheonix XIII says:

I still do the laser water thing, but with old icecream. I draw with it.

  45. Elkian says:

My mom gets this LOOK on her face when I chew ice.
Where else would her looks be, I wonder?

  46. steve-o says:

Before I read the caption, I thought Biff had been crushed by a mini bathtub

  47. "rar" -ivy says:

yes, that ice is obviously far too liquidy. fridge needs big adjustments. yes.

    also @ takanero:

  48. "rar" -ivy says:

    ahem: pause for dramatic effect..
huge chunk!! don’t you read xkcd??

  49. jykcor says:

    they are never cubes.

on a lighter note, i stole a cup from my first trip to red robbins last friday. its a big deal ’cause there are NO red robbins in jersey.

  50. Kratospie says:

The icecube-cutting-water-lazer, you and me did the same thing Chris!

  51. the walrus says:

I cut my ice with an actual lazer.

  52. Mach10X says:

I too am guilty of the water laser. One time the ice machine malfunctioned and ended up getting water all over the ice bin fusing all the ice cubes together. I was occupied for over an hour.
