#242 – Sandals

Fortunately I’ve never stepped on a jellyfish. I’ve heard that it can be very unpleasant. However, one summer on vacation I was hanging out in a lake and decided to go exploring around a tree that had fallen into the water. I managed to step on a broken bottle and sliced open the bottom of my foot. I was yelling for help for a few minutes before someone noticed me. A large man that was also vacationing there came to my rescue and carried me up to the beach and set me on a lounge chair. There was a lot of blood spilling out into the sand and a large crown gathered around me to see what was going on. A lifeguard then came over with a med kit and bandaged me up. I was really sad that I couldn’t go into the water for the rest of the vacation.

hehe those remind me of these rediculo9us jelly sandals that my sister used to wear when we were little, they were made out of this jelly rubber, any one else remember those or were they a british thing only?

  2. Meric says:

Reminds me of the time when I was at the beach. I was out on some rocks trying to catch crabs when a big wave came in an threw me against the rocks, cutting open my feet. I then had to climb back over all the rocks I had gone over with a bleeding foot… Not fun…

  3. ZYXWVUT says:

    Ouch.

  4. jo says:

hmm yet another thing ive actually tried, except the one i trued to do this with had no stingers, it feels more strange than anything else

  5. cyber95 says:

Sure, it might hurt a bit at first, but then your feet become numb and you can’t feel the pain anymore!

  6. KeYYeK says:

yeah, but then the jelly fish will start eating your feet D:

  7. RFPT says:

rule of jellyfish stings. run back to your beach cottage and get the vinegar. don’t tell dad if you know he’ll only gawk at it until it’s too late to heal.
i’ve had that scar for years. a scar!

but never mind that. Biff at the beach. can’t quite make out the landscape. love the way his eyebrows respond to pain. i have ideas that when he talks (if he does), his eyebrows have an oscilloscope effect.

  8. Wortcov says:

my friend swallowed one when he vas swimming, but lucky for himthat it had no stinger….

  9. AUGGGGGH!!!!
This is possibly the most painful looking comic Ive seen on this site!

  10. Reikon Ame says:

Just so you know those shoes are top queality and should be endorsed by more people for their comfort and realiablity.

  11. Steven says:

Yeah. Try having a BLUE BOTTLE wrap its self around your leg. Now that hurts. Trust me. Biff looks quite at peace to me.

  12. Steven says:

Oh, in no way putting this down. Tee hee. Biff.

  13. Connoborg says:

I knew it! He did sandpaper his nipples off and fill his bellybutton with caulk! And the whole jellyfish thing, urine. It may sound gross but it makes it stop hurting.

  14. Oddly Frozen says:

squish squish zap zap =D I’m a jellyfish!!

  15. Nova Namina Riff says:

I hate going into the sea. I could say Im partialy scared of going in the sea. NOW THAT REALY makes me not want to go in the sea.

The Urine thing is just a myth. It doesnt have the acidity level to counter a jelly fish sting, it would just be realy gross and unhygenic.

  16. Reikon Ame says:

Actually that urine thing sounds great more people should do it seeing someone pee on their feet or legs, maybe arms and such would be a blast.

  17. Josher says:

Hmmm, which kind of jellyfish, Box?
Irukandji can be used for baby booties.

  18. the red rule says:

atLeast he got the jelly for his peanut butter & jelly sandwhich, and the peanuts, now only the butter left to go YAH!

  19. Rono says:

    O_o
    that does look comfy…
if only there wasn’t the whole problem with the whole neurotoxins

  20. Corey says:

Don’t forget the bread, and the knives for spreadin’. Nice farmer’s tan on Biff too, heh.

  21. Amy says:

Jelly Shoes!! My mom never allowed me to have any. So I would “borrow” my friend’s and then change back before I got home. *sniff* I remember fishing the rocks out of the bottoms of the heels. I got my daughter jelly sandals when she was a toddler, just to make my mother mad hahaha revenge…

  22. Andrew says:

Standard practice is warm water, using a brush to remove the stingers, then an antibiotic gel to prevent infection. An alternate method is vodka, then brushing for treating the sting.

  23. Aaaaand that’s them all! It’s nice when you can read an archive all in one sitting – you don’t forget where you left off last time. =D

I’m definitely bookmarking this for future reading; Biff has another join his ranks!

  24. KungKong says:

I love these. *adds to favorites*

Jelly fish sandals has got to hurt though.

  25. Haragorn says:

it’s the same beach from vacation! Maybe he’s wearing those because his sandals were in one of his bags?

  26. Manekineko says:

I cut my foot wwhile hang out w/ friend and had to limp the 2 miles back to my friends house man talk bout bad day

  27. Awkward As Usual says:

I went to a beach once that wall littered with jelly fish after high tide. It looked like a giant jar of faded grape jelly exploded on the shore. It was really neat…though I don’t think I would have gone over and took a couple to use as footwear….

  28. the only says:

    i loved those jelly things

  29. dragonbrad says:

i think i know why he is white,he is a defective michal jackson experiment

  30. Ela says:

I like the way the tentacles were drawn. Nice goin’, Chris!

  31. plumtreefish says:

i immediately thought of jelly sandals as well (they weren’t just british, anon!)… i loved mine! i once got a fish hook in my toe, but i’ve only been to a “proper” (i.e. – not new jersey or new hampshire) beach once, and no jellyfish sightings.

  32. plumtreefish says:

(and yeah, those are pretty darned cool-lookin’!)

  33. Dranikos says:

Jellyfish Foot Stings are not fun. Cuts on the bottom of feet are not fun either (I’ve done both, though thankfully the cut on my foot was smallish and done in the bathtub)

Also Note: Just finished reading the archives. Funny site, bookmarked.

  34. Cheez says:

Reminds me of when I was on holiday when I was a young kid. Can’t remember where, but hey. I was walking along the beach and I stepped on a dead sea urchin. Effing painful, I tell you.

  35. Red Pikmin says:

My sister was going water skiing one time and let go of the handlebarthingy. When the motor boat came back around to get her, she was nearly screaming in pain. Why? Her arm had been dragged through at least one jelly. Not a pretty sight. My mom’s first reaction? “Get a camera!” I can’t remember what we did to remedy it, though. Might’ve been special jellyfish-sting-healy-gel.

Something about his shoulders and arms just screams discomfort to me.

  36. Domi says:

I love that Biff has a tanline!

  37. Arsnof says:

It’s a good think you didn’t go back into the water. Sharks’d smell your blood and come gunning for ya.

  38. Mint Sharpie says:

    Ooooh. He’s so not gellin’.

  39. Wolfie says:

My sister and I had an interesting experience with jellyfish once. We dug a big hole in the sand and using sticks, filled it right up with jellyfish then covered it in sand.

Then when we were nearby building a sandcastle, some unfortunate beach goer discovered our jellyfish tomb, by disappearing up to his thigh in it.

Needless to say, he wasn’t as amused as we were.

  40. Falos says:

To the owner of a broken bottle on a lakebed: Jerk

  41. Angel says:

Ugh! Stories of foot trauma always make me clench up. Stepped on a fish hook when I was very little and the removal was more horror than actually stepping on it. They didn’t cut it out, they… Er. I’ll save you all the gross details.

  42. Miranda says:

I also wore those jelly sandals. They would always cut into my ankles until they bled, so I wouldn’t wear them very much.

  43. Rachel says:

    🙂

  44. Ben says:

Our yr 10 phys ed class used ot swim in the ocean just near the school.
Unfortuently, being SW WA (Aus), we get lots of stingers.
There is nothing like a refreshing swim and 1/2 dozen welts from jelly fish.

  45. Graceofbass says:

I discovered when I was was about 13 that I am VERY allergic to jellyfish. I got stung by one in Mexico and started to go into anaphylactic shock. My joints were all so swollen that you couldn’t see my knuckles on my hands, it was just smooth. So hopefully Biff won’t swell up like a balloon.

  46. Ford says:

i dont know about foot stings but once my biology class went to an island for a trip to “document coral growth”. it was right in the middle of jellyfish season and i had stings all over my hands, forearms, back and legs. MAN THAT HURT!! *noise of pain

  47. Darkpheonix XIII says:

    …That’s just wierd.

  48. Testocules says:

My feet sting just looking at that

  49. Kitsunie says:

I love his eyebrows here. This reminds me of these sandals everyone wore when I was a kid, they were made of this smooshy jelly stuff..

  50. emthegreat says:

the eyebrows in this one made me giggle.

  51. TCC says:

one of my dads more famous storys of “when I was your age” lore was a rainy day down in recida (or some simmilar spelling) and he ran through some kind of storm drain or something, and slipped. he fell, and caught himself with his hands, but a broken bottle went RIGHT into his palm! man that guy has some stories…

  52. Soltueur says:

    That expression is priceless xD

  53. Kintatsu says:

Luckily for Biff, those look too big to be Irukandji jellyfish. Look them up on Wikipedia to see why.

  54. Queenaoshi says:

I absolutley love this comic, Even though I just started reading it recently. Besides how awesome his eyebrows are, what I love most about this comic is that he has a farmer tan from wearing t shirts all the time. Makes me smile.

  55. Arcan says:

Never seen a jellyfish, let alone stepped on one. I have however stepped barefoot on a Lego. I’ve heard the pain is comparable.

  56. Pix says:

    AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, he so white!!!

  57. extremist343 says:
