#212 – Oatmeal

My favorite oatmeal is actually Quaker instant oatmeal. I mix 1 packet of apple & cinnamon with 1 packet of maple & brown sugar. It’s a favorite of mine in the winter.

  1. Sylvia says:

Just had to say, that is exactly how I eat my oatmeal! (not Biff’s way, Chris’s way.)

  2. Warcrime says:

O.o thats… an interesting idea…. gotta be haywire on the coffee maker, hope he dosent use it to make coffee anymore.

  3. Phantom says:

Holy Christ I bet that stuff is freaking rocks

  4. Blargen-Vargen says:

I have a feeling that this experiement is going to end up like comic #2..

  5. Dan Scannell says:

That’s fairly genius. Right up there with the caffeine popsicles from the movie Coffee and Cigarettes.

  6. Ksullvan says:

o my god if this actualy worked….I would never sleep

  7. Siggeir says:

Aaah! I’ve finally read through every single Biff comic from day one and I must say that I love Biff 😀 Looking forward for reading more.

    Best regards from Iceland,
    Siggeir.

  8. Chris says:

Welcome Siggeir. My ancestors are from Iceland. 🙂

  9. Joeman says:

All you need to do is put the oatmeal in the coffee pot and let the hot water generated by the coffee maker fall into the oatmeal.

Then drop in some crushed caffeine pills… (available at all local drug stores, do not exceed recommended dosage, please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are nursing, pregnant, or about to become pregnant)

  10. Joeman says:

    Oh, and stir well.

  11. Reikon Ame says:

Wow, funny that this comic is about inventions today. I had the idea to make a dog cannon……..okay just so you know I”m not crazy it came from God of War 2. That nice grab you can do on dogs then punt them. But I digrese. Caffinated Oatmeal the breakfest choice of our generation.

  12. kenshin620 says:

Hmm, I must try that sometime. I wonder if that works with instant ramen noodles.

  13. Reikon Ame says:

Probally not, I mean if it did, that would be weird, though beef ramen kinda looks like caffine is in the water already.

  14. DMC_Run says:

Why not just use coffee, instead of plain hot water, to make your oatmeal? Those instant oatmeal packets could even sweeten your coffee for you.

  15. T.S. says:

eh… you guys just need the caffine I.V… Oh, if only there were such a thing… EVERYONE would be walking around with Foldgers brand I.V. bags attached to their arms…

  16. Tinned Moron says:

    Excellent as always.

I can’t begin to count the amount of porridge experiments (or food in general) I’ve done (the instant custard powder was a good one) but I have yet to try coffee. Mostly because coffee causes me to vomit.

  17. Pyrogoeth says:

I used to mix one pack of Cinnamon and Spice and one of Maple and Brown Sugar (don’t ask why I capitalize the flavours, I just do.), but then one day I was checking out the flavours and realized “Wait.. Apple and Cinnamon + Raisin and Spice = Cinnamon and Spice! WITH Apples and Raisins!” So from then on, I’ve had one Raisin and Spice, one Apple and Cinnamon, and one Maple and Brown Sugar every time. Three packets! Mmh, I feel greedy 😛 And once I tried using coffee instead of water.. Is actually pretty good.

  18. geeklord says:

After reading this comic I tried to make caffinated oatmeal
myself. It was actually quite good. I used DMC_Run’s method, substituting coffee for hot water.

    Live long and prosper,

    Geeklord

  19. Lightningbullet says:

I tried to make Caffeinated Oatmeal once.. Let’s just say i spent the next 50 minutes on the Toilet.

  20. dragonbrad says:

holy shnikey,i should try that, wait maybe i should try that with caffiene powder, and cotton candy sugar, and putt that in a cotton candy maker, and make caffinated cotton candy, ohh that would be orasome

  21. Lucretiel says:

that is freaking genius. Biff should have his own category at the patent office.

  22. Rocky A says:

mmm mixing things to make a food of choice .. i once made a peanut butter and koolaid sandwich because all i had was koolaid packets, hot dog buns and peanut butter .. but couldnt you just make the coffee and then add oatmeal to it? and if your from Iceland dosn’t that mean your technically from Sweden or some such nonsense 😛 personally i track back to Finland in the long run .. witch was originally classed as Scandinavia? it would be easier if it had all remained one country but no the brothers couldnt decide who got to rule it could they 😛

  23. Cheez says:

Assuming oatmeal is porridge, that sounds like a DAMN good idea.

  24. Oh, this would totally work! And you could do it in the actual coffee pot! Just take the instant oatmeal package(s), put them in the pot. Pour the necessary amount of water in the coffee machine, then add the filter and appropriate grounds for the amount of water. Then you could eat it straight out of the pot. I really want to try this!

  25. dragonbrad says:

then why would he need to modify his coffe pot?

  26. Chuck says:

    This. Is. Effin. Great.

  27. Kuroiten says:

    Cheez: Oatmeal = porridge

And again I salute Biff and his inventive mind.

  28. Rahnzan says:

Woah, o_O I do the same thing. Now I don’t feel very original…

  29. pip says:

*Drools over combination of caffiene and instnt oatmeal*
why? why couldnt this be real?*eats caffinated donut*

  30. Dragonbrad… I guess you wouldn’t have to modify the coffee pot exactly, but you are using it for an unintended purpose.
I actually seem to remember watching some TV program where they showed how to make a number of things in a coffee pot such as steamed veggies and such (and I think cooking a hotdog in the toaster, but I may have heard that from elsewhere).

  31. Kaos says:

this is perhaps one of the strangest things i have ever heard….I usually switch between the Apples & Cinnamon + Brown Sugar way and the Cinnamon & Spice + Apples & Cinnamon + Brown Sugar way…and frankly i have never heard of anyone else mixing them until now, very creepy that it should be the same way…very creepy

  32. Bob says:

ohh, yea, that stuff is soo good, little apple bits.

  33. Mint Sharpie says:

Life would be so much better if you could get little eyedropper-sized bottles of pure caffeine to put in things. *dreams of nirvana*

  34. Charles Duffy says:

I made maple, brown sugar and coffee oatmeal (2 packets Quaker maple & brown sugar oatmeal, a whole bunch of coffee grounds, and I think some honey; it’s been the better part of a decade now) getting ready for the flight down to my first real tech job interview; it was finals week, and I hadn’t slept for the last few days.

Worked well — kept me completely wired for much longer than the same amount of coffee more conventionally administered — and I didn’t pass out until after the interview, but when I tried to reproduce the recipe later, I couldn’t get the taste right. Oh, well.

  35. Frank says:

Apple and cinnamon with maple and bronw sugar is actually my favorite too. One package never goes far enough.

  36. Laje Kahr says:

I do that but I also add a Cinnamon and Spice.

  37. Rachel says:

random changes always liven things up. 😛

i usually mix 1 peaches and cream and 1 apple cinamin! it tastes great!

  38. Darkpheonix XIII says:

Let’s see: I don’t drink coffee, and I don’t drink oatmeal… this invention will be of almost no use to me.

  39. Ben says:

An old italian guy was telling me that during the war (WWII) they couldn’t get coffee, so they roasted oats (whole not rolled) and brewed that. Apparently you can still buy roasted oats.
The whole flavoured instant oats thing is far more offensive to me than the idea of eating a comic book. This is comiong from a guy that has hundreds and hundreds of comics and lots of first eds.

  40. joequincy says:

I have to agree with you… 1x “Apples and Cinnamon” plus 1x “Maple and Brown Sugar” makes the best serving of oatmeal out there…

I was always disgusted by my dad’s combination of unflavored and raisins.

(I love the comic… seen ads every once in a while… finally decided to read a few comics yesterday… it’s been occupying all my internet time since!)

  41. Plankster says:

I used to camp a lot, and instant oatmeal was a great meal on those cold mornings by the fire. I could never get the right amount of water, so my oatmeal was always watery, even now I think it tastes better that way. I usually just mixed whichever ones I found together, but blueberry+strawberry is good.

  42. Hasufin says:

My father once managed that with instant oatmeal.

He’s the sort that doesn’t exist before coffee. He had a very simple routine in the morning: Put water in microwave. Pour cup of coffee (my mother, being a non-caffeine sort, would be able to operate the coffee machine for him), put the instant oatmeal in a bowl, then retrieve the hotwater and make the oatmeal.

Yeah, he got it a bit wrong once: put water in microwave, fix cup of coffee, put oatmeal in bowl, pour coffee into bowl….

I need to get a print of this to give him a copy. Sure, he’ll write me out the will, but it’ll be worth it.

  43. Elkian says:

He probably just uses the coffe maker for the hot water/ coffee.
We have a carboniter/carbonater – sparkling water 24/7, if we like (I hate sparkling water)

  44. Sean says:

I mix instant coffee powder in my oatmeal. It tastes good and it’s… well I guess I just do. No reason.

  45. mrmeval says:

Sean has a cool idea. I’ve put strong coffee and espresso in my oatmeal. I prefer American roast coffee. It has a synergistic effect to the taste of the oatmeal. I like it.

  46. Sigurdgram says:

son of a…GENIUS!!! OATMEAL WITH CAFFEINE, MADE AS EASILY AS MAKING COFFEE! all it needs now is a tablespoon of sugar, a teaspoon of maple syrup, a teaspoon of brown sugar, maybe a bit of cinnamon, and a tall glass of also caffienated orange juice.

  47. Romano Giovanni says:

Wow, what is it about apple cinnamon and the maple and brown sugar that are so great. They came in the multi pack with the cinnamon and spice one, which was just not as good as them when combined. I love that combination.

  48. BrainpanSonata says:

Four packets of maple and brown sugar in the morning for me. I don’t know why I decided two wasn’t enough at some point.

  49. DaemonThanatos says:

huh…Biff’s idea ain’t bad…I should try this sometime…minus converting my coffee maker, of course.

  50. Josh says:

My preferred oatmeal is similar, but much easier because I simply add hot chocolate mix to almost any flavor of oatmeal. Yum!
